Vintage style: a heart for found objects

Trine Harbos vintage style:

The furniture: Modern design classics, finds from the flea market and souvenirs of Asian travel, as well as modern elements in the romantic look - here are beautiful and special individual pieces loosely combined.

The colors: Varicoloured carpets, colorful patterned fabrics, vividly the motifs of the pictures: To keep things from becoming too restless, Trine selects earthy colors, so much white and simple light-dark contrasts for floors, large pieces of furniture, lamps and accessories.

The materials: Organic materials such as wood, clay, wicker and leather provide a feeling of security and warmth and form the tranquil basis for Trine's imaginative mix of styles and ideas.

The pictures Modern prints, old and new photographs, graphics, watercolors from Asia or relief art from the Middle East - at Trine everything finds its place. The frames remain simple, so that nothing seems overloaded.

The carpets Traditional Scandinavian rag rugs and Asian kilims in earth tones work well here, as no one in size or pattern dominates the others. Their diversity makes the room lively and cheerful.

Trine Harbo, 33, Export Clerk, moved four years ago in a three-room old apartment in Copenhagen's trendy district Osterbro. Working for world-renowned designer Malene Birger, the Dane wanted to create a home, a base from which she not only wanted to return from her many travels, but also where she could house all her finds.

The wide, airy spaces found in Asian hotels had inspired her, as well as the colors and light, natural materials of the East: she had all the doors removed from her apartment to expose the view. She carefully renovated the beautiful floorboards.

"I love wood and everything that is organic", she says. In addition to Asian art, she also collects design classics, antiques, paintings and ceramics from Europe and around the world. Can this be combined? Yes, Trine says, "I like to take things out of context and put them in a new one."

In the furniture store, she almost never buys. She finds her pieces, not the other way around, she says. Where? At flea markets, with friends, on trips and wherever people like to live.

The Old Danish kitchen was already in the apartment when Trine moved in. She stroked everything white, matching the antique table she also got hold of at the flea market.

Bamboo blinds in the bedroom create warm, friendly light, the bed was bought Trine a friend, the coverlet comes from Malene Birger. The beaded curtain comes from the Asian shop.
