Healthy dishes for mothers: Mompreneurin ventures into "The Cave of the Lions"

Shortly before she was to present her business idea to the investors of the Vox program "The Cave of the Lions", Susi Leyck's nerves fluttered. "I was really excited and it felt very crazy to suddenly be in this show myself, which I've only seen on the sofa," she tells ChroniquesDuVasteMonde.com. For a moment she thought: "What am I doing here? Am I crazy?"

The product is their delivery service "Healthy & Mother". It is aimed primarily at mothers who have no time (and desire) to shop and cook in the first weeks after the birth of the baby. Meanwhile, many mothers with older children are regular customers.



Online, the women at "Healthy & Mother" ready-cooked dishes for € 7.50 and order directly delivered to the house. For example, turkey curry, beef goulash or even vegan quinoa balls in tomato stew and mango.

It was important for Susi Leyck not to come across as a mum in the TV program, which only runs the whole thing as a hobby. "I did not want to be a supplicant, because I offer them a chance to join in. It's a professional manufactory and there's definitely a market for it."

A shop out of the own mom need

The idea for "healthy & mother" had the Hamburg woman, as she had just got her first child. "I love to eat and cook and have a soft spot for good ingredients, so I found it terrible that my diet was so bad during the childbirth period, simply because I did not have time to cook," says the 36-year-old, earlier has worked in advertising and the music industry.

So her idea to found a delivery service especially for mothers. With selected ingredients, handmade, without flavor enhancers and artificial additives. With all the nutrients women need during the childbirth period.

Leyck started with a mini team and delivered the dishes himself. It was well received, but for about a year, the business was running alongside her part-time job. "I had great respect for just doing that."

But after the birth of the second child, she thought, "now or never," and put all her energy into it. With new design, new kitchen, new dishes created with professional recipe developers and nutritionists.

"Since I had an infant at the time, I breastfed in many meetings at the same time, but that's just how Working Mom is," she says, laughing.

300 to 500 orders a month

Her courage has paid off. Meanwhile, the boxes are sent with the dishes to warm up via DHL to all over Germany. Around 300 to 500 orders per month have "healthy & mother", and the trend is rising. "Especially popular are the gift vouchers, the grandparents or friends give to mothers," says Susi Leyck.

The woman from Hamburg is convinced that it works without the capital of the "lions". There are also loans from the bank - "and I remain 100 percent my own boss," said Leyck optimistically.

She has enough ideas. So there are now also products for babies, for example, impermeable scarves. "My drooling son brought me that idea." Your own mom everyday life is just the best source of inspiration.
