"Death": What does the tarot card show?
The trump with the unlucky number 13 and the terrible name? just that is your topic now? No panic! Probably the most dreaded of all Tarot cards, if it appears in a personal display, it almost never shows the physical death of the questioner or of a person close to him.
But does something have to die? but in the majority of cases these are just old, wrong ideas or behaviors.
Let's take a closer look at this "evil map". In the Rider Waite Tarot, "Death" commemorates a horseman of the Apocalypse, but also a noble knight. A skeleton in black armor comes proudly ridden on a white horse into the picture, where only the red eyes are a bit scary.
Death has already "killed" a king. The once mighty ruler lies in ermine fur with crown rolled from the head on the ground. In the background is a dark boat on the river Styx, which drives the soul of the deceased into the hereafter. Right in front of the Death Rider, a bishop is now standing with folded hands. Does he plead for his life or does he pray for the salvation of the deceased king?
On the floor next to the bishop kneel a child, who looks forward to the black rider just with impartial curiosity, and a beautiful young woman who awaits death with almost sensual-looking devotion. What makes him so nice?
In his hand, "Death" carries a black banner depicting a mystical white rose, a symbol of light and a new beginning. In contrast, the sun's light shines between two towers in the background. Is it a sunset or a sunrise? Both! Becoming and passing away belong together like the morning and the evening sky. The past has to die before the future can begin. Ultimately, "Death" simply invites us to leave the old one rigorously behind us and to ride courageously through the gate of the new beginning.
