Winter shock! Here is the first snow this week
Snow and cold are coming up? so, yes! It was said a few weeks ago that the upcoming winter would be above average mild, the weather services are currently in the process of sharply revising their forecasts. The culprit is a polar cold front, which brings us the first snowfall in early November.
Attention, danger of frost!
Unfortunately, winter does not grant us a long grace period. Rain, cold, snow? the winter start will be grubby, that's for sure! And already on the first weekend of November, temperatures in much of Germany are falling far below the 10-degree mark and thus in the little-loved frost area? and not just in the mountains.
According to forecasts, the snowfall limit should then drop to 500 meters. The first snowmen can then be built in the Harz, the Erzgebirge, the Black Forest and the Bavarian Forest.
Polar vortex brings icy cold
The reason for this is the polar vortex that pulls over from the North Pole. This is a low, which is filled with icy air. If this circling wind turns out strong, the winter air remains in the vortex. If it is weak - as it is at the moment - the air can penetrate unhindered and bring icy cold to Europe.
No panic!
The mild winter, however, is still not completely lost. While November shows its not so nice side, it should not be the measure of all things. The weather authority NOAA still forecasts a positive temperature deviation from the climatological average of more than one degree.
So if it's really clinking cold or pleasantly mild? from which side the winter actually presents itself at the end, remains to wait something. Until then we will bring the grubby November behind us!
