Widow Celine Dion: A great love finds its tragic end

René Angélil, husband of superstar Céline Dion (47), died of cancer at the age of 73. He leaves behind three children aged 14 to 5 years. The two were married for 27 years.

At the age of 12, Céline was discovered and promoted by her future husband. He believed in the power of her voice, even pledging his house for a while. Already the first recording of her music became a success for the singer in Canada. Her appearance at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, which she won, marked the beginning of her steep career. In the meantime, her manager and most important adviser René had also become her life partner. In 1994, the two celebrated a pompous wedding. Both have never felt the age difference.

In 1998, her husband diagnosed with throat cancer. Simultaneously with the chemotherapy of her husband, the singer underwent artificial insemination and became pregnant. In 2001, their son René-Charles was born. René Angélil seemed cured of cancer. Celine was at the peak of her career as a singer. In 2010, after numerous attempts of artificial insemination and multiple miscarriages, she gave birth to the twins Nelson and Eddy. Then the shock: In 2013, the cancer returned.

Céline and René already knew at this time that the chances of recovery would be hopeless. "We talked about it, I'll be there for him, he'll die in my arms, that's what he wanted," the singer said in several interviews over a year ago.
