Shared experience = double success!

Losing weight is theoretically quite simple: you just have to eat something healthier and lower calorie and move regularly, then the pounds melt. But what to do if the soul wants to be embalmed after a late date with a large portion of mousse au chocolat and not with skimmed milk yoghurt? Can you refuse the birthday cake of your favorite colleague without beating the mood? And how do you regularly go to the aerobics class, when the end of work always starts late?

Really helpful tips for these difficult situations can only be given by those who know what a cravings attack is and how stubbornly the inner pig dog can resist jogging in the rain.

Stay slim together

A study with 292 volunteers at the University of Surrey showed that joining forces with like-minded people seems to be the most effective way of supporting long-term success. One half of the participants were on their own during the diet, the other half dined in the group and met regularly for the exchange of experience or for joint fitness training.

After half a year, the study participants had lost on average almost six kilograms and all diets were equally successful on the bottom line.

On the other hand, there were major differences after one year: almost half of the respondents who were interviewed again kept to their diet. With the group programs twice as many participants remained on the ball as with the diets, which one had to go through alone. At the time of the survey, the lone fighters had already gained more weight than those with team support.

The secret of group dynamics

The success secrets of the group are obvious: on the one hand, social control is inspiring. Shared weighing reveals high-calorie slips and it is noticeable who skips the sports lesson more often.

But then you can get in weak moments comfort and new motivation. After all, everyone has a hangover. But the potentized creativity of the group also works wonders. No matter what the diet could endanger, several heads are guaranteed to find a simple solution to any difficult problem. (Please also read the interview of motivation expert Dr. Marianne Schneider)
