Monkey Forest: Exploring the Balinese jungle

Coral reefs, endless beaches, volcanoes and monkeys - that's Bali! If you finally manage to get away from the sea, the palm trees and the bays, a very special experience awaits you in the jungle of Ubud: the Monkey Forest!

Hidden behind ancient trees, bulbous roots and guarded by macaques lie the sacred sites of Monkey Forest Ubud. Every year around 10,000 tourists visit the overgrown temples just south of Ubud city center. The three holy temples Pura Dalem Agung, Pura Beij and Pura Prajapati are dedicated to the deities Shiva, Brahma and Gangga and may only be entered by locals and devout Hindus.

The entrance to the nature park, which is open from 8.30 am to 6 pm, costs just under three euros. Right at the entrance one is greeted by the little monkeys. They are used to visitors and can be more trusting than one or the other likes. Because they are really only on one: feed! In search of edibles they can become even more rabid. Just stay calm and relaxed and do not get hectic.

Overgrown paths lead to small stairs that take visitors across the whole area. You can of course explore independently. But there are also guided tours where you can learn more about the Balinese culture.
