A year has passed since Batic (Miroslav Nemec) and Leitmayr (Udo Wachtveitl) officially closed the search for the murderer of Ben Schröder, who was stabbed to death in the eyes of his wife Ayumi and his son Taro. But then a similar crime happens again in Munich. An act without recognizable motive, again without a relationship between offender and victim, with the same cruel handwriting. The nightmare for Batic and Leitmayr seems to continue, but there is a glimmer of hope: miraculously, the victim survives and there is a plethora of clues to the offender ...

Henrik (Jimmy Lindström) and Marlis Strömberg (Hanna Ullerstam) make Commissioner Anders (Walter Sittler) jointly responsible for the death of their eight-year-old daughter Lucie. The little girl had been reported missing by her parents. Lucie can only be found dead on a lonely road at night. The accident car was found in the forest, the driver is fleeting. Owner is the politician Hannah Kroog (Lia Boysen), who claims that the car was stolen. The alibi she gets from her nanny Jenny von Hofsten (Félice Jankell), which leaves a strange impression on Robert.

Sawmill owner Lorenz (Otto Mellies) celebrates his 80th birthday with his family. His younger daughter Katrin (Katharina Böhm) also comes from the USA. Katrin and her older sister Manuela (Maja Maranow) were in love with the same man almost 20 years ago, who eventually married Manuela. On the birthday night Katrin lodges in the mountains in the beloved old hunting lodge. There she is found severely injured the next day. Everyone thinks she crashed unhappily into the gorge during the night, but Katrin stubbornly claims someone has pushed her. Commissioner Westphal (Michael Habeck) initially finds no conclusive evidence for Katrin's claim.
