Very easy to dry herbs

You have different ways to dry herbs. We show the two best methods. You need either a Dehydrator? or time.

Dry herbs: the best harvest time

For many types of herbs is the aroma best before flowering? So the best time to harvest. Ideally, the herbs used to stand in the sun for one to two days. The aroma is lowest in the evenings and on rainy days, so rather harvest on a dry morning / morning.

tip: Many types of herbs are excellent for drying, but for example, cress, lovage and sorrel it is futile, as they lose their aroma with the drying.



Herbs dry in the air

  1. Carefully cut the stems off the plant.
  2. Clean the herbs by shaking, only when necessary with some water. So you avoid quality loss.
  3. Now bundle the stems and tie them with yarn or similar. down together.
  4. Now hang the herb bundles upside down in a dark, dry and sheltered place.
  5. After about two weeks, the herbs are dried. Carefully peel off the leaves and pour them into a glass that can be hermetically sealed.

Not everyone has a dehydrator at home, who has it, can also dry herbs. The dry time varies depending on the type of herb and can be four hours, but also up to 12 hours.



Freeze herbs

If you do not have time to let the herbs dry in the air and do not even have a dehydrator, you have another option to conserve herbs: freeze. How easy it is, you will find in the article about freezing herbs.
