Sorry, Barbara! Facebook apologizes to street artist for dubious censorship

Almost everyone knows them? the street artist Barbara. Even those who do not know her, have probably already seen one or the other of her artworks and thought "WOOOW, great saying!" or "Hach, so true!" or "Hahahaha!".

Barbara is the street artist who leaves mostly political messages in white letters on a black background on street signs, walls, walls, pillars and other landscape elements of our human world.

Does not ring anything? May I help you:

So, now everyone knows.

Anti-Barbara campaign on Facebook and Instagram

At the weekend, some of our favorite ambassador's posts of tolerance, humor, respect, and (self-) love were deleted from both Facebook and Instagram. Futschikato. Among the works of art suspected of violating the rules of peaceful and decent social media coexistence are, for example, these:

Barbara, who herself has the motto "hatred is crass, love is crass." wrote on the flag, responded with a Facebook post in which she wrote, among other things:

"Deleting posts is the decision of any private company on behalf of Facebook and Instagram, who decide on a fast track and do not even mention any reasons for deletion." I see freedom on the Internet as more than just threatened, it becomes, in my view ruined by it. [...]

I have constantly tried to counter the hatred on the internet with my messages, got a lot of positive feedback, not least the Grimme online Award. The fact that I am being punished for it by the platforms Facebook and Instagram feels terrible and unworthy. I love freedom and in the long run can only act where I can live it. "

Hi guys, I'm back on the net, the little break has been good. Unfortunately there is a But: In the last ...

In the meantime, Facebook has apologized. A spokeswoman said to Spiegel Online: "The posts were accidentally removed and are now back on Facebook and Instagram available, we are in contact with Barbara and have personally apologized for the error.?

Despite apology: An uneasy feeling remains ...

Even though things went well for Barbara, the affair leaves a bad aftertaste. The experience that Facebook and Instagram are deleting positive, funny, and thought-provoking posts has now been made, and WE CAN NOT just erase that experience from our memory.

In addition, the question now arises, what else is so censored, without us realizing it - because those who have posted it are not (yet) as well known as Barbara. If people who have something important to say to the world are censored and leave frustrated, a considerable part of the potential and value of social media is lost.
