"Sex and the City": Four Movie Reviews

The film review for SATC addict

For those whose DVD-boxes look quite tattered and for those whose main advisor in heartache and style issues is Carrie Bradshaw:

You have to go to the cinema! The movie is everything - just not disappointing. What has made the series a cult, also acts on a movie screen charming: Love, Labels and New York. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda have grown older in the four years since the end of the series. But they still talk about - yes, about sex - but above all about themselves, love and friendship. And they just look really good!

We can always find ourselves in all the back and forth that the four girls go through. That was when they were in their early thirties just like today, ten years later. Because they still pose the important questions of life: What does love mean to me? And what friendship? What should become of me? In summary: A constant "Should I or should not I?" the life coaching.

What's a little different: Mr. Big's name is John James Preston. Carrie still stays with "Big". (At least, if she talks about him, if she actually stays with him, will not tell.) The supporting roles are in contrast to the series real secondary roles. But if the "older gay gentleman" Stanford or Carrie Vogue boss Enid: Somehow, all still remain the way they are.

Two to three somewhat uninspired jokes are below the usual Carrie level. But that is forgivable. And it does not change the fact that after two and a half hours in the cinema you have the very good feeling that you have just inhaled a whole SATC season at once.

Only the question remains: When does the DVD appear?

What has made the series a cult, even on a movie screen is charming: Love, New York - and Labels! About every designer in the world would have liked to use the SATC movie as an extended catwalk. Because it has always been not just about what Carrie has to endure, but also about what she wears.

By the way, there are 80 different outfits in the movie, more than 1000 can be seen in total. Whether weird or simply beautiful: each one is one hundred percent Sex and the City. Costume designer Patricia Fields composes the series style in the film for the perfect fashion show - and a perhaps more mature and inimitable style cascade.

From designer fashions to finds from vintage stores, from absolute trend parts to the old familiar: What Carrie and her girlfriends fashionably lie down, is eye-catching. And lets movie goers with a normal-sized purse pray that it may rain Manolo Blahnik's or Luis Vuitton's bags from the sky.

In the series, the fashion had a major role in the film, she has the star appearance: Screenwriter Michael Patrick King has a pair of shoes - Manolo Blahniks, of course, a love game crucial role. Wonderfully ironic - and just sex and the city.

The end we already know from the series: Mr. Big flies to Paris, finally tells Carrie that she is the love of his life, and off we go home.

And then? The TV series was an eternal "And then?" Story and did not hide the fact that after a happy ending it can sometimes go on with sadness. Out of pure habit, the big, big question arose at the end of the series: And now?

Carrie wonders, too. What happens to a love when it is safe? After ten years on-off relationship, Mr. Big and Carrie are in the film before the next level of relationship: their wedding, "the big day".

Let's be honest: The final outcome of the love story Bradshaw-Big is at least half of the reason why "Sex and the City" fans will go to the movies. It would even be vulgar to reveal what will become of the wedding. Or from Miranda and Steve, Charlotte and Harry or Samantha and Smith.

In any case, just like the series, the film shows much of love: romantic, unbelievable, incredibly mean, hurtful, cheesy, transient, eternal, touching. Love just. In this respect, a lot of emotions in the cinema room must find space. Packing handkerchiefs is by no means wrong.

The end is fortunately a good one - in the sense of the series. Screenwriter Michael Patrick King has hit the right note to complete the four love stories. A bit of kitsch, a little thoughtfulness and a lot of personality make up the end.

And then? Wait. Maybe there will be a next movie.

The film review for SATC novices

You're wondering if it's worth watching if you've heard the name Carrie Bradshaw - but nothing more?

It depends on. First of all, the film is clearly not directed only to initiates: a mini-review in the beginning almost everything together, what you urgently need to know about Carrie and her friends. Insider jokes occur, but do not bother anyone who is not up to his head in the SATC cosmos. The plot is round and colorful in itself.

The movie is worth it for you if you like love and life stories. Stories about very adult women between 40 and 50 who know who they are and find out what they want. The times also wonderfully refreshing with trivialities such as shoes or main such as sex deal. Their friendship in every situation has the last word. If you can get involved, you will have fun.

Of course, the characters are pointed, as are the dialogues, the clothes, the plot. That may seem completely unrealistic and over-worked on some people. If you know beforehand that it annoys you, stay at home. It's not that the film has no claim - just like the series, it has its own very own.
