Grimme Prize 2019: Great pleasure with Luke Mockridge and Jan Böhmermann

For the 55th time, the Grimme Prize was awarded on Friday. In the four categories of fiction, entertainment, information and culture as well as children and youth, a total of 17 TV productions were honored at the Marler Stadttheater. Among the known winners were some repeat offenders.

Jan Böhmermann (38) took home the fifth Grimme Prize after 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 in the Entertainment category. This year, the satirist was honored for his program "Let yourself be monitored - The Prism is a dancer Show" (ZDFneo). The second prize in a row went to cabaret artist Maren Kroymann (69) for her sketch comedy "Kroymann" (Radio Bremen / SWR / NDR). Another prize in the entertainment category went to comedian Luke Mockridge (30) for his game show "Catch! The Great Sat.1 Catch Friday". They all got the award personally.



Once again streaming series awarded

In the fiction category, the financial world drama "Bad Banks" (ZDF / Arte) and the TNT series "Hackerville" cleared up about cybercrime. In addition, a format of a streaming service was considered again this year. Last year Netflix received a prize for the German production "Dark", in 2019 the Amazon Prime series "Beat" was honored. The creators of the comedy "Familie Lotzmann auf die Barrikaden" (ARD) were pleased to receive the only prize for a single piece that was awarded this year in the category fiction. A special prize went to the "Tatort: ​​Meta" (rbb).

In the category Information and Culture the documentary "Kulenkampffs Schuhe" (SWR / HR), "The Story in the First: On the Right Edge" (NDR / MDR) and "Fraud - The Rise and Fall of a Hochstapler" (SWR) received a prize. WDR reporter Isabel Schayani (52) was honored for special journalistic achievements: "Bohemian Browser Ballet" (SWR / Funk.) The Special Prize went to the three-part series "The Story: Ungleichland - Wealth, Opportunities, Power." ) and the series "Animanimals" (SWR / KiKa) won the prizes in the Children and Youth category, with a special prize awarded to filmmaker Marco Giacopuzzi for his contribution to the series "Look Into My World" (HR / KiKa).



Television station Arte receives special honors

The special honor of the German Adult Education Association (DVV) presented at the end of the ceremony DVV President and CDU chief Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (56) to the German-French television station Arte. "Arte stands for education, it stands for democracy and for Europe, and that's what the adult education centers also stand for," says Kramp-Karrenbauer.

The Grimme Prize is one of the most prestigious German television awards. The undoped award has been awarded since 1964.
