Sewing a dress with an elastic band - a guide

Length: 100 cm

Sewing a dress with an elastic band - that's what you need:

  • Fabric: 230 cm, 140 cm wide
  • Elastic band: 3.5 cm wide, in hip size
  • Here you can download the cut sheet as PDF. Make sure you print out the pattern sheet in color. Attention: Under "Customize Page and Options" select in the print menu "Poster". Then the pattern sheet is automatically printed spread over several pages.

Cut pieces for the dress with elastic:

  • 9 front
  • 9 receipt
  • 11 back
  • 11 receipt
  • 12 tunnel
  • Please note: Copy the slip from the dress cut.
  • cutting: All around 1 cm seam allowance, hem 4 cm. Trim cut parts marked in gray only in a simple fabric layer.

Sewing a dress with an elastic band - how it works:

Front and back: Close shoulder seams, quilt stepfoot widthwise.

Receipt: Close shoulder seams, fold with neckline edge, iron seam. Break in the open cut edge 1 cm and narrowly stitch up.

Front and back: Close side seams, sew over.

Tunnel: Close the seam. Iron the upper and lower edges 1 cm, stitch up the tunnel as indicated from the left. Cut the seam, pull the elastic band to the desired width into the tunnel, stitch together the ends, sew the opening by hand.

cuffs: Iron 1 cm and quilt double-stitched.

Hem: Iron on, quilt with the cutting edge turned on.
