Sew hair band: 2 variants without pattern

Sew hair band: 2 variants without pattern

We have two great instructions for you to sew hair bands yourself: A turban hair band and a headband with a loop in the middle.

You need:

  • sewing machine
  • Jersey or knit fabric
  • Matching sewing thread
  • Staples or needles
  • fabric scissors

Sewing hairband with turban twist: a guide

You need two jersey pieces to sew your hairband. Of course, it depends on how wide you want your hair band to be and how much your head circumference measures. To your head circumference you add another two centimeters seam allowance to it. For a wider hair band with a head circumference of 55 cm, we now expect the instructions to be 57 x 24 cm (including seam allowances).

  1. Cut two rectangles with your measurements.
  2. Fold one of the rectangles lengthwise right to right, so the left side is facing up!
  3. Pin the top open side with staples or pins. Repeat the step for the other cut piece.
  4. Now close the staked long side with an overlock stitch, a zigzag stitch or with the overlock machine. The same with the second part.
  5. Turn both parts over so that the right side is now out.
  6. Lay the two tubes with the seam in the middle.
  7. One of the two parts lies horizontally with the seam in the middle and up in front of you.
  8. You put the second part vertically in the middle of the first part, so it looks like a plus sign.
  9. Now take the two ends of the lower tube together so that there is a seam at the seam.
  10. Place the lower side of the upper band on both ends of step 9. The seam is on top.
  11. The last upward pointing end are you laying? without turning it? under the other three ends. This is how the bandeau effect arises!
  12. Then you put all four open ends together, fix them so that they lie exactly on top of each other and then stitch them off again with an overlock stitch.
  13. Cut off protruding corners and ends.
  14. Now turn the hair band, the seam disappears inside.

Sewing hair band with loop: sewing instructions

A nice alternative to the turban hair band is one with a decorative loop, as in this example:

For this hair band you only need one of the hoses with your measurements plus a small rectangle for the loop.

  1. ready a hose with your measurements, as described above in the manual. Right side is outside.
  2. Cut out of your fabric a small rectangle, z. B. 10 x 12 cm. Depending on what size suits you, you make it wider or narrower.
  3. Fold the rectangle lengthwise in the middle, left side outside and steppe at the long side from.
  4. Now you turn the rectangle that the right side outside lies.
  5. Fold the rectangle in the middle. The two ends are now on each other, the seam is on the outside.
  6. Close the ends tight-edged together so that a small tube is made. Turn the hose over.
  7. Now you pull the hose over your hair band strip.
  8. Now turn the headband on the left, turn it right side into the right, the seams lie on each other.
  9. Fix the opening all around with pins, then step off, but leave one small opening for turning.
  10. You turn the hairband over and sew it together with the magic seam.

Both hair bands can be varied in size and fit both adults and children and babies. And the bands can of course be changed as desired. Instead of a loop, you can have one loop drumbinden, instead of a monochrome turban hair band you can different Mix colors or patternsand much more besides? whatever you like.
