"Say, what's a good cream?"

That's the way physicians have to go. Whether at parties, parents evenings or other crowds - as soon as anyone learns their profession, diagnoses are solicited for all kinds of Zipperlein: "Look, I have such a job here ..."

It's not that bad for me. But as soon as people realize that I have a certain competence as a beauty author, this question comes up: "Now tell me which cream is the best of all? You have to know that!" Uh, no - unfortunately I can not. Yes, I have a good overview of the spectrum of active ingredients and I know the approximately 100 brand new creams that come onto the market every year. But Douglas, Europe's largest perfumery chain, has nearly 2,500 face creams on offer, and drugstores, pharmacies and health food stores are roughly offering at least another 1000. I could now rave about my secret pets - but adhoc personal advice is only conditioned in it. Because skin is something very own, and what works well in my, may not be good for girlfriends. This may be because we are the same age, but aged differently and our skin type is not identical. This is an important criterion in the search for the right product - and usually the first hurdle at which it fails. If I ask friends about their skin type, the answer is usually: "sensitive!" That fits in with everyone, but it's not an answer to my question. Because "sensitive" is not a skin type, at least not dermatologically defined.

"Sensitive" is not a skin type - at least not a defined one!

Professionals speak of normal, greasy or dry skin. If that applies to the whole complexion. And certain zones do not lack fat or moisture. Sounds complicated, it is too. It is therefore advisable to have a regular status determination by a dermatologist - which can be easily combined with the skin cancer screening, over and over again. Because the skin is constantly changing over the years, there is no universal formula for eternity. Creams are at best partners in life, loyalty has an expiration date, sometimes a very short one. Holiday pleasures are to be welcomed explicitly, because even geographical latitudes influence the skin needs. Trying on does not hurt. If that does not work with the new one - back to the store.

But maybe everything will become easier in the future. I'm actually waiting for help from the app store every day. Nothing and no one knows us as well as our smartphone. It even knows which climate zone we are in right now. I imagine it this way: If necessary, the phone scans the current state of our complexion and calculates what the skin needs, taking into account our lives in the last week. So, on Saturday morning at half three confused Whatsapps typed, checked in on Sunday night in the yoga studio, googled Monday after digestive tea, Tuesday ordered partnership advisory and sent back Wednesday, Thursday 34 times "Hasi calls" ignored, Friday appointment made with the shaman. All these data would have to be sufficient for personal skin analysis including product recommendations. Why there is still no clever app for this - it's a mystery to me. And the question of all questions that not only haunts me by profession.
