Repeatedly raped: Evan Rachel Wood speaks openly about bad abuse

"Yes, I was raped"

She did not intend to make this part of her life public. But after the election of Donald Trump to the next US president, following a campaign of unprecedented sexism and contempt for women, she could not keep silent: Evan Rachel Wood, currently best known for her role on TV Series "Westworld", told in an email to the magazine "Rolling Stone" that she was raped several times. Soon after, she also posted this part of her e-mail herself on Twitter:

Well, since I wrote the letter I wrote to @RollingStone in its entirety. #NotOk pic.twitter.com/0FSP1gsE36

"I do not think we live in times when people can keep quiet."

Wood is aware that she is not pleased with this revelation. She had previously avoided the questions of "Rolling Stone" journalists because she did not want to be a victim or to feel pity. Most of all, she knew that many people would immediately assume she was doing all that for publicity. Or that her description would be "no real rape". But the truth had to come out, Wood claims to be no longer able to sweep the terrible experiences under the carpet.

"I thought it was my fault"

It hurts to read the sober, unenlightened account of her rapes:

"Yes, I was raped, by my partner, while we were together, and another time, by the bar owner. For the first time, I was not sure if it was a rape if the partner did - until it was too late And who would believe me?

The second time, I thought it was my fault and that I should have fought better, but I was too scared. "

"A few minutes can turn your life into an endless fight"

Two rapes - and a life that will last forever. Because Wood makes it clear that she still suffers from these terrible experiences and will probably do the rest of her life. Above all, the last sentence of the actress leaves no doubt about the emotional wounds she sustained: "It all happened before I tried to kill myself, and I'm sure it had a lot to do with the suicide attempt.

A bold move that will hopefully help raise awareness of how big the problem really is. Because as long as women feel "guilty" for not guilty enough, or doubt that a partner can even rape, much more education is needed!
