Oscars: Academy reconsiders the prize for the audience hit

Already at the 91st Academy Awards in 2019, there should be a new category in which popular films should be honored. As a result, superhero blockbusters or other blockbusters would dust a golden boy. But that will not work for now. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which annually organizes the Academy Awards, will not introduce the new award for now.

"There has been a lot of response to the launch of a new award, and we recognize the need for further discussion with our members," said a statement by Academy CEO Dawn Hudson on Thursday. Whether and when the Oscar for the audience hit is still introduced, remained open.

The limitation of the gala to three hours, however, should remain. The Academy Awards will take place on February 24, 2019. The nominations will be announced on January 22, 2019.
