"Leggings only with Size Zero" - Fat Shaming from the Direx

No off-the-shoulder tops, skirts down to the knees and certainly no sexy cleavage? You can keep the dress code at American schools what you want, but one thing is not at all: to make girls regulations because of their dress size.

But that's exactly what the director of Stratford High in South Dakota did? at least subliminal. At a tenth-grade assembly, Principal Heather Taylor said about leggings:

I've already told you that, but I'll say it again: If you're not a size zero or two and you put on something like that, you look fat, even if you're not fat.

A clear message: According to the director, only girls up to a size of clothing could wear 34 leggings without looking fat.

Abashed reactions in parents and students

Many parents and students responded with shock to the statement and media also reported Fat Shaming by the director of Stratford High.

Schoolgirl Allison Veazey told WCS News 2: "I'm not a size zero and I felt kind of embarrassed, I was really hurt because I thought my height made me look disgusting when I was wearing such clothes."

On Facebook, a user wrote about the incident: "As a teenager and adult suffering from anorexia, I say: That's not true and not okay, you're beautiful and valuable as Size Zero, Two and 20!"

The principal asks for apology - too late?

Taylor has since apologized after the many negative reactions. "I did not want to attack or hurt anyone," she wrote in a statement, "I assured my students that I'm one of their biggest fans.

Having spoken to them and received much support from them, I am confident that we are ready to go on and have a wonderful year. Thank you all for your support and for giving me the opportunity to respond to your concerns. "

Whether this excuse can cancel the impression that her statement may have made on many students is questionable - especially as she had obviously repeated this statement. One thing is certain: nobody has to be ashamed to wear leggings!
