Daniel Craig: Does he want the death of James Bond?

Daniel Craig (50, "James Bond 007: Specter") is tired of his role as James Bond. That is well known. Although he will once again be seen as the secret agent in "James Bond 25", after that he should be over. Could this mean that he would like to see the movie death of his iconic character?

Barbara Broccoli would approve of the move

At least Producer Barbara Broccoli (58) seems to be fully committed to making this happen to Bond. She would like to see Bond lose his life in a "spectacular finale," as a British "Sun" insider revealed. Incidentally, this should have been the real reason for the departure of star director Danny Boyle (61, "Slumdog Millionaire"), who dismissed the idea as "ridiculous". Previously, a statement had only become known that "creative differences" led to Boyle's departure.

But does this also want Daniel Craig?

At first, one might think that Craig could find this suggestion quite wonderful. When asked if he could imagine making another Bond film, he finally explained in an interview with Time Out in October 2015, "I'd rather break that glass and cut my veins." It is understandable that he made headlines at the time.

Almost exactly a year ago, however, the actor had revealed in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he would return as Bond. It made Craig the impression that he had absolutely no anger against the character played by him. "I could not be happier," he explained. He added, "I always wanted to [return], I needed a break."

When asked about the 2015 interview, he explained why he had chosen such harsh words. The interview took place just two days after filming "Specter" - and at that point, he simply did not want to know about Bond. He had to admit that he had "given a really stupid answer". So it does not look as if Craig wishes his character a possibly violent end.

Who will be his successor?

Meanwhile, there is already a diligent search for the successor to Daniel Craig - at least from fans and celebrities. There are some big names to choose from. For example, Michael Fassbender (41, "Shame") or Tom Hiddleston (37, "Marvel's The Avengers") are already busy speculating. And Idris Elba (45, "Luther") recently fueled the discussion itself. His name had also been mentioned before, and in a tweet he also wrote on 12th August: "My name is Elba, Idris Elba" - quite obviously an homage to the famous Bond saying.

However, another actor is particularly high-traded: Tom Hardy (40, "Taboo"). The Briton, with ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan (65, "Goldeneye"), is evidently even a fervent advocate. "I think Tom Hardy could be a good bond," he told the event magazine "Mail on Sunday". He would like to see his colleagues in the role, he explained. Whether and what thoughts the production team has already made about it, but so far is not known.
