Giving birth to dolphins? The hype about the funniest birth

It sounds quite nice: a woman swims in the sea, free, in nature, surrounded by the element that she loves most and the animals that are so familiar to her. Dorina Rosin from Hawaii works with dolphins, the sea is her second home. Why should not she give birth to her child in this environment?

Yes why not? For the normal pregnant woman from Wanne-Eickel that is as realistic as giving birth to her child on the moon, but it is still Rosin's own decision and her own responsibility.

However: Dorina Rosin wants to be accompanied not only by dolphins, but also by a camera team. In the new program "Extraordinary Births" of the British channel "Channel 4" women are shown who give birth to their child in a particularly wicked way. From the ballerina, who wants to dance to delivery, to the yoga birth, where the umbilical cord and placenta are not removed until they fall off by themselves. And just Dorina Rosin, who works as a dolphin therapist and wants to give birth in the presence of animals.

Free will - or sensationalism?

And with this public, the whole project gets a bad taste. Is it really Rosin's very own need - or is it also about proving to the sensational audience that she can do it?

What if she changes her mind during labor? In front of the camera, she will hardly dare to drive quickly to the next delivery room. How much free will really exist?

Not to mention that dolphins are wild animals and no one knows how they react when the woman starts to scream and when blood suddenly flows into the water at birth. Apart from the fact that complications can occur and the next operating room is far away. Apart from all the reasonable reasons against such a birth, the question arises as to whether we really need such pictures. Even though they are extreme, they may elicit desire from other women, the desire to keep up.

Births are unpredictable

Such a broadcast also shifts the way we perceive births. So far, every birth has been an extraordinary event. Will that not be enough in the future? Do we need new, more extreme special effects instead of colored lamps and scented candles?

Of course, it is good for women to be able to realize their ideas about childbirth as much as possible. As a rule, we already know very well what is good for us. And the birth of our child is a very special experience that we want to design as we like it.

The problem is: wishes are not always fulfilled - and they change even in extreme situations. For example, I absolutely wanted a water birth and imagined that I would move a lot during labor. When they were there, I suddenly could not do anything with water - and certainly not with exercise. I was only satisfied when I was lying on the birthing table like a stranded whale with the PDA on my back.

The blogger Katja in turn has just told that she wanted to give birth at home - but then it came for medical reasons to the caesarean section. A fact that she suffered for a long time, partly because she had a different idea and was disappointed with her body.

Mothers already have enough pressure

With broadcasts such as "Extraordinary Births", expectation of birth may even be higher, expectations that will most likely be disappointed in the end.

As if the pressure were not enough for all of us to expect perfect mother skills and perfectly educated, crafty children - does birth have to be a superlative now? No. Let's just get our children alone.
