Donna Summer is dead: a look back in songs and pictures

US singer Donna Summer is dead. She succumbed to lung cancer on May 17, 2012 in Florida? at the age of 63 years. Summer became famous in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Love to Love You Baby," "She Works Hard for Her Money," "I Feel Love," and "Hot Stuff."

Donna Summer began her career in Germany in the late 1960s. First she played in the musical "Hair" in Munich. In the mid-1970s she recorded with the German music producer Hansjörg Moroder aka Giorgio Moroder the scandalous single "Love to Love You Baby", which brought her her first international hit and made her famous internationally. With "She Works Hard for Her Money" (1983), one of her best known hits, Donna Summer spoke to single mothers from the soul.



Donna Summer's music - a mix of dance, rock, pop and R & B - has shaped generations of artists. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Beyonce, Duran Duran, David Bowie and Kylie Minogue are just a few of the musicians who were influenced by the disco queen and their beats. With 19 albums and ten compilations, Born in Boston in 1948 as LaDonna Adrian Gaines celebrated worldwide success. By the way, Donna Summer owes her stage name to her first husband, the Austrian actor Helmuth Sommer. Five times she won a Grammy Award in the course of her music career - the most important prize in the music industry. Their plates achieved multiple gold and platinum status. In 1979 she had four number 1 hits. Three of their albums landed in a row at # 1 on the record charts and received platinum. This Donna Summer is even more successful than the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Many stars, including Kylie Minogue, La Toya Jackson, and Janet Jackson, shared their grief over Summers death over the Twitter short message service and condoled the family.
