That needs your skin in winter

The cosmetics company Vichy has found in a study that the skin ages not only over the years - that's clear - but visually every single day. "Moisture loss, oxidative stress and mimic stress are responsible for the fact that wrinkles are more visible in the evening, seemingly decrease the luminosity and elasticity of the skin," says Dr. Katrin Kipper, scientific director of the French pharmacy brand. In winter, the result is even clearer. Therefore, seasonal care is especially important to look well-kept - and not older than you really are. What matters? Click through ...

The A and O for winter skin: Effective moisturizer

So that the skin does not dry out visibly, it needs an extra dose of moisture during the cold period. Because: "Due to cold outside temperatures, the natural moisturizing factors of the skin, the so-called Natural Moisturizing Factors, increasingly lose their magnetic effect", says skin expert Dr. med. Patricia Ogilvie. If the water-binding substances are less, the moisture decreases more and more, because the storage capacity of the skin is reduced. Especially at the beginning of winter, according to the Munich dermatologist, the body can not counteract this fast enough. He has to get used to the climatic conditions first. In addition, heating air dries out the skin additionally.

This helps: Creams with active ingredients that give extra moisture, such as neohesperidin. The phytochemical, which is extracted from bitter oranges, is said to provide the skin with long-lasting and intensive moisture. Come skin-like lipids (fats) z. For example, from apricot kernel oil, shea butter or beeswax, the active ingredient complex (eg from Vichy) can improve cell cohesion on the skin surface and thus strengthen the barrier function of the horny layer. So moisture should be better kept. If the epidermis is intact and shows no cracks, the skin loses less moisture. Small gaps in the natural barrier of the skin are products with essential fatty acids such as omega 3 and 6, z. B. from raspberry seed oil, close, so that moisture is better stored (eg, by Dr. Pierre Ricaud). In turn, oil-in-water emulsions try to rebuild the skin barrier with vitamin E and ceramides without leaving a greasy film (eg from Biotherm).

For example: "Liftactive Supreme" by Vichy, approx. 29 euros; "Eclat D'Hiver" by Dr. med. Pierre Ricaud, about 20 euros; "Aquasource Cocoon" from Biotherm, about 40 euros.

The new ones in the beauty shelf: repair concentrates

Did you know that the skin has its own immune system? If it is intact, it should even be able to combat air pollution or drought.

This strengthens: Shiseido now has the first concentrate that supports Langerhans cells, which are so important for the skin's defenses. An active ingredient complex of ginkgo and thyme is to give the commanding and ordering the immune system power. Also ideal are concentrates with hyaluronic acid, which can replenish the skin tissue (eg from Eucerin, Gertraud Gruber). Tip: "Care Concentrates should be applied immediately after cleansing the face, they form the basis of facial care", says dermatologist Dr. med. Ogilvie.

A good defense for example by: "Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate" by Shiseido, about 82 euros; "Biomimed Dermo System Active Concentrate 2" by Gertraud Gruber, approx. 45 Euro; "Volume-Filler Intensive Concentrate" from Eucerin, ca. 33 Euro.

Warming body oils for delicate skin and a pleasant feeling

Hot showers and long baths do a good job on the one hand, on the other hand they dry out the skin additionally, especially the shins and forearms quickly become scaly. Therefore, now is the time for a special body care: body oils not only spoil by their warming, soothing consistencies and their ethereal scents, but are also real power-care - they not only donate moisture, but also have a moisturizing effect.

The operating principle: Body oils with vitamin E are said to strengthen the skin barrier to limit the loss of moisture (eg from Sothys). Adding drugs such as hyaluronic acid to the oils, they become real moisturizers (eg from Sans Soucis). In addition, oils that are free of parabens, silicones, mineral oils and dyes are also particularly suitable for sensitive skin (eg from Roger & Gallet). Tip: After showering or bathing, just dab off the wet skin instead of drying it off and apply the oil to the skin, which is still slightly moist. So it can be better absorbed.

Invest in oil: for example, "Caring Body Oil Lily & Bamboo" by Sothys, about 30 euros; "Shimmering Body Fluid" by Sans Soucis, ca. 29 Euro; "Huile Repulpante Fleur de Figuier" by Roger & Gallet, about 25 euros.

Eye serums for the most sensitive part of the face

Especially the thin skin around the eyes in winter is looking forward to a care that is tailored to their needs. Especially in the evening, the hydration of the skin decreases: According to the Munich dermatologist Patricia Ogilvie, "the natural moisturizing factors at the end of the day have exhausted their binding capacity". In addition, too much moisture is lost in the course of the day over the natural, so-called transepidermal water loss. Consequently, the moisture balance is in the red after about twelve hours. Unfortunately, the eye area is often the first to feel this. Fortunately, serums can compensate for this loss quickly.

This helps: Active ingredients, such as extracts of skyweed (eg from Ahava), which are rich in moisturizing and moisturizing substances. Or the nursing classic hyaluronic acid, which is known for its ability to bind and store moisture in the epidermis of the top skin layer (eg, from Kiehl's). Also good: Reishi, a rare mushroom with healing properties that grows on oak and beech trunks. It is intended to protect the immune system of the skin and thus have an anti-inflammatory effect (eg from Origins).

Eye Comforter: for example, "Dead Sea Osmoter Eye Concentrate Youth and Cellular Energizing Serum" by Ahava, about 41 euros; "Super Multi-Corrective EyeOpening Serum" by Kiehl's, ca. 44 Euro; "Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Eye Serum" by Origins, ca. 53 Euro.

Facial oils - savior for very dry skin types

When choosing your winter helper, you should not automatically grab the richest cream on the shelf. As in the warmer season, care must now be tailored to the skin type. Basically, you can orientate yourself to: "Compared to the summer, you should upgrade your winter care by a level of richness," says the dermatologist Dr. med. Ogilvie. That is, with a rather oily skin it is enough to switch from emulsion to cream. However, if you have naturally a rather dry skin, you should try it with a facial oil. Even a drop can be enough for the whole face.

The secret: The composition of oils is very similar to that of natural skin fat. That's why they can be especially well received - and leave no fats. They moisturize the skin and strengthen its lipid film so that it can also be stored better. But oils can do the skin even better in winter: camelina oil maintains the balance of the skin fats, the lipids (eg from Sisley), essential oil of lavender acts as a protective shield and should prevent the ingress of bacteria and the loss of moisture (eg B. of L'Oréal Paris), and raspberry stem cells in an oil formulation support the skin's own production of hyaluronic acid, which stores moisture like a sponge (eg, from Boots Laboratories).

Good oil sources: for example, "Huile Precieuse à la Rose Noir" by Sisley, about 165 euros; "Age Perfect Oil Richesse Luxurious Facial Oil" by L'Oréal Paris, ca. 18 Euro; "Serum7 Active Night Oil" from Boots Laboratories, about 35 Euro.

Please never forget the lip care!

The saying "a lot helps a lot" is only partially valid for winter care. Even now you can overload some skin types with too rich care. For the lips, that's definitely not the case: they suffer from the dry cold. "You have to retrofit in terms of richness and cream in between, especially when you are out longer," advises Hautprofi. Ogilvie.

That feels good: As soon as the lips begin to stretch, care sticks with active ingredients such as acacia honey help. They should nourish and protect against dryness (eg from Nuxe). If it comes in an irritating cold to an inflammation, small cracks, blisters and scaling may occur. A lip balm with sucralfate, an aluminum salt, can relieve symptoms and quench the inflammation. Skin-related lipids from linoleic acid and shea butter to repair the damaged skin barrier again. Additional oils and waxes act as cold protection (eg from Avène). Lanolin should also be able to heal chapped skin and relieve chapped skin (eg by Dr. Lipp).

Nursing and healing: for example, "Rêve de Miel" by Nuxe, about 13 euros; "Cold Cream Lip Balm" by Avène, about 8 Euro; "Original Nipple Balm for Lips" by Dr. med. Lipp about www.niche-beauty.de, about 14 euros.

Handseren - intensive care overnight

Lack of subcutaneous tissue, daily stress and other environmental influences such as cold cause the skin on the hands to become dry and cracked, reddening or flaking. Therefore, you should not only wear gloves at temperatures below eight degrees, but treat the hands also intensive care. With handseren one can do that even in sleep.

How they work: As with facial care, hands are applied before the cream. They work best overnight. A complex of glycerine, organic castor oil and andiroba oil is not only intended to moisturise, but also to cushion the skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles (eg from Aveda). Vitamin A, C and E, just like facial serums, improve the skin structure and strengthen its barrier (egfrom Alessandro).

Nourishing finger food: for example "Hand Relief Night Renewal Serum" from Aveda, approx. 39 Euro; "Hand! -Spa Age Complex Vital Serum" by Alessandro, about 16 Euro.

The icing on the cake: A mask for the feet

The feet are stuck in thick boots in winter and are certainly best protected from the cold. Nevertheless, they are looking forward to extra care.

This helps: Foot masks should be well massaged and allowed to act for at least 15 minutes. If you pull thick cotton socks over it, the mask can work very well overnight thanks to the body's own heat. Shea butter in the mask should moisturize the skin well and make it elastic. Plus: The active ingredient does not grease (eg from Bioxidea and EssieSpa). The winter care classic Urea combined with panthenol can moisturize and soothe the skin (eg from LCN).

Good on foot, for example, with: "Miracle24 Foot" from Bioxidea on www.niche-beauty.de, about 41 euros; "Urea 10% Foot Mask" by LCN, ca. 12 Euro; "Feet in the Clouds" by EssieSpa, about 40 euros.
