Advanced Style: A movie that makes you want to age

"I never wanted to look young, I wanted to look great!" This is one of the sentences from Ari Seth Cohen's new movie that gets stuck in the head. Together with the incredibly inspiring pictures of the protagonists. Seven - yes, you can confidently call it that - style icons at retirement age, the New York photographer has accompanied for his documentation. He has tracked down the stylish ladies during countless raids for his blog Advanced Style. There is, for example, the 94-year-old artist and teacher Ilona Royce Smithkin, who likes to wear hair (and eyelashes!) In a carrot-red color, combined with bright green and yellow. Or the 80-year-old former editor Joyce Carpati, who never leaves home without pearls and Chanel bags.

However, those who think of feathered birds, bright colors and huge pieces of jewelery on crazy birds of paradise are on the wrong track. The ladies are more extravagant than the average, and in New York a style is always easier to wear than anywhere else in the world. But most of all, they do not quarrel with age and consistently implement their style visions. Or, as 81-year-old boutique owner Lynn Dell Cohen simply says, "When you look good, you look good."

Ari Seth Cohen's documentary "Advanced Style" will be released on May 9, 2014 in American cinema.
