VW Touareg Hybrid: "Sailing" for the environment

Environmental test with the VW Touareg Hybrid, driven by ChroniquesDuVasteMonde editor Kathrin Behrens

Every morning seven city kilometers - my way to the editor. That's where the new VW Touareg Hybrid comes in handy, I thought. A big car, which I can still use in good conscience alone on a short haul. Because such an eco-friendly station wagon engine, I knew that, at speed 50 can drive for a while electrically first.

Some roads after the start, I know about the VW Touareg Hybrid even better: two kilometers of gentle, thanks to e-motor almost silent roles - but then the Dick ship needs as ever the gasoline engine. The recharges when driving on then the nickel-metal hybrid battery of the E-unit again, which can recharge on the brake power recovery further power.

I also have to learn a lot when driving so that I can use the hybrid technology efficiently. This includes, among other things, a decided "down from the Ga" ?, for example, on downhill or motorway rides. For example, the petrol engine can be decoupled up to 160 km / h, and the VW Touareg Hybrid starts to "sail" with low fuel consumption, as the experts say.

When I have internalized the system and always drive smoothly, I can send a greeting towards the environment: a good nine liters to a hundred, as the on-board computer signals, I think in the city is not too much for a handsome SUV with its known advantages. I throne high above everyone and everything (even in hot traffic situations with this "all-round feeling"), have a huge storage space and still have plenty of driving pleasure. Strictly speaking, the seven kilometers to the editorial office would not be enough for me anyway.

INFO: The VW Touareg Hybrid is 4.80 meters long and 1.70 meters high and drives with an electric (46 hp) and a gasoline engine (333 hp). Standard consumption: 8.2 l / 100 km (CO2: 193 g / km). From 75 500 euros.
