Study shows: Yoga relieves your menstrual pain

Meta-study: Yoga helps against regular pain

As a meta-study from Great Britain shows, yoga works wonders against menstrual cramps. The scientists had evaluated 15 previous studies, all of which looked at the effects of yoga exercises on period discomfort. The results were published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.

But what exactly does the investigation say? All surveys showed that yoga helped both mentally and physically throughout the period. The exercises helped to alleviate pain and reduce PMS symptoms. In some studies, there were even positive effects on tension pain and flatulence. But not only physically, and psychologically affects the popular sport: Accordingly, the exercises should have a Stimmunsaufhellende and relaxing effect.

The authors of the study suggest that yoga influences the body's stress response and alters the sensation of pain and pain, possibly by releasing natural painkillers in the body. (Study author Jennifer Oates)

In the long run to success

Sure, yoga beginners who practice yoga only once a week will not notice the positive effect on the body. The studies show that the relief of the pain occurred mainly in those who completed exercises daily or several times a week. Nevertheless, even beginners with strong regular pain should give yoga a chance - and just stay on the ball.

I would recommend to visit more than one hour before deciding whether it works for you or not. (Oates)

By the way: Especially suitable is Hatha Yoga, a combination of breathing and relaxation exercises. Reversal postures are avoided during the period.
