Make milkshakes yourself - so refreshing!

When we hear the word "milkshake", we get a bit nostalgic and remember hot summer days in the ice cream parlor around the corner. If there was no mixed sundae, pinocchio or spaghetti ice cream with umbrella, we ordered one of the milkshakes from the ice cream menu.

Milkshake actually means nothing but "shake" milk, but a milkshake is so much more than that. It's made up of milk and ice cream, often fruit, chocolate, and syrup mixed in a blender to be mixed with a drink - which you then enjoy drinking away with a straw. Wonderfully refreshing!

What makes a good milkshake?

Make a milkshake fresh and drink immediately after the preparation. Because if the milkshake is too long, it will be warm and tastes no more. After all, the icing temperature is the key to refreshment.

In addition, the ingredients that are whisked with a blender, so have no opportunity to separate again. Because then the milkshake not only does not taste anymore, it also looks unappetizing.

Where does the milkshake come from?

Invented was the "milk shake" in the USA. There, a certain "pop" Coulson in Chicago mixed milk, ice cream, malt and chocolate in 1922 - the milkshake was born. Greater notoriety gained the drink through the so-called "milk bars". Soon, the milkshake was also on the menus of ice cream parlors, cafes and restaurants.

In the meantime you can buy milkshakes ready in the fridge. Many fast food chains also offer milk shakes. In those, however, often put a lot of sugar, flavors and additives.

We are sure that the best still is a fresh made milkshake. And when we prepare it at home, we can decide for ourselves what's in it. And the good news: a milkshake you can easily make yourself without much effort and without special equipment.

Make milkshake yourself: the basic recipe and delicious variations

For the basic recipe, the same ingredients are usually used: milk, ice cream and fruits. Add to that ingredients like chocolate or vanilla sugar. Especially popular are chocolate milkshakes, vanilla milkshakes and strawberry milkshakes. But also ingredients like raspberries and bananas are often used for milkshakes.

The ingredients are added to a blender in order and then mashed into a shake until the fruits are finely chopped. The result is a slightly foaming consistency.

If you want healthy milk shakes, you can skip the ice cream and mix only milk and fruit instead. This variant then has significantly fewer calories. Instead of milk, kefir or buttermilk can also be used for shakes.
