Federal pattern (BM): With needle no. 4. 1st row: 2 sts left, 2 sts left alternating. 2nd R: Knit the sts as they appear. Always repeat the 2nd round.

Pear pattern (PM): With needle No. 4,5. 1st round: 1 st in the right, 1 st in the left. 2nd R: Knit the sts as they appear. 3rd round: 1 st in the left, 1 st in the right. 4th R: Knit the sts as they appear. Repeat the 1st to 4th Rs.

Zopfrautenmuster (ZR) over 98 M: With needle No. 4,5. Knit the rows according to the knitting pattern, knit the sts in the back rows as they appear. In the back rows, knit the sts as they appear. Always repeat the repeat in height.

Knitting tension: Knitted in PM yield 22 M x 28 R = 10 x 10 cm.

Back: Cast on 122 sts and knit 5 cm without edge stitching in BM. Continue knitting according to the pattern, knitting 12 sts evenly, plus 1 edge stitch = 134 sts. For armholes, cast off 32 cm from BM on both sides 4 sts and then remove in each 2nd row 1x3, 2x2 and 6x1 sts = 100 sts. For the shoulders, cast off at an armhole height of 16 cm 3x10 sts in every other row. For the neckline, bind off the remaining 40 sts.

Front: Knit as the back, but for the neckline at an armhole height of 15 cm cast off the middle 24 sts, knit 5x2 sts, then cast off on both sides in each 2nd row 1x5, 1x2 and 1x1 sts.

Sleeve: Cast on 64 sts each and knit between 2 edge stitches in BM 5 cm. Continue in the following pattern, increasing 5 sts at the same time (in brackets): 1 edge stitch, 15 sts in PM (increase 1 st), 37 sts in AGM (doubling 5th, 19th, 31st sts), 15 sts in PM (increase 1 st), 1 edge stitch = 69 sts. For armhole both sides increase 11x1 sts in each 8th row = 91 sts. Cast off 40 cm from BM for arm ball on both sides 1x3 sts and then in each 2nd round. Take off 4x3 and 16x1 sts = 29 sts. Continue in the same pattern for the remaining 29 sts 13 cm, then cast off all sts.

Pigtail strips (2x knitting): Cast on 13 sts each time and knit with needle no. 5 to the right (front right M, back left st). Bind off all sts 3 meters from the stop. Tip: For a thinner braid simply cast on less sts and knit the ribbons a little bit shorter. For each sleeve pull a pigtail strip from the top through the LM holes, pulling the strip from the inside to the outside with both ends through the two outer holes of the top hole pattern row and then pulling both ends through the middle hole of the next hole pattern row from outside to inside. Then pull the ends in the same R but through the two outer holes outwards again, etc. Pull the ends inwards on the wrist, sew them together with a few stitches and sew on loosely.

elaboration: Close the shoulder, side and sleeve seams and sew in the sleeves. Pick up 108 sts from the neckline for the turtleneck and knit in BM. Cast off 20 cm from the stop all sts loose.
