Rock'n'Roll and pink hearts
Rock'n'roll, baby! Lulu, sweet daughter of a bankrupt factory family, is looking for the adventure. And find it at the fair. Jimi, the heartbreaker, works there. Of course on the bumper car, where the cool guys are at home.
A deep look - and the two are in love. Pink hearts everywhere. But the love between a black American and a white German is too big for a small town in the 50s.
Nasty mom: Katrin Sass
Lulu's drunken mother (Katrin Sass) staggers like a fury through her pink home and sets everything in motion to separate Lulu from Jimi. Daddy Cool (Rolf Zacher) is on Lulu's side, but incapacitated by his brutal wife through forced castration and medication.
When Jimi takes on a garden party with Lulus brother, the scandal is perfect. The two have to flee to realize their dream of great love. So Lulu sneaks out of the house at night and rushes away with Jimi in his light blue convertible.

At night, Jimi and Lulu reach for the stars, during the day Lulu exercises at a gymnastics competition. But the henchmen of Lulu's mother, chauffeur Schultz (Udo Kier) and dr. from Oppeln (Hans-Michael Rehberg), they are hot on their heels.
Bastian Pastewka is serious
With "Lulu and Jimi" Oskar Roehler (elementary particle, Agnes and his brothers) has fulfilled a dream. He wanted to make a big movie about big emotions, a fairytale in the fast lane - like David Lynch's "Wild at Heart" or Baz Lurhman's "Romeo and Juliet". In addition, he lets his characters sing, dance, languish and die, Bastian Pastewka packs in an impossible plaid suit and makes Rolf Zacher a larger than life caricature of himself.
Katris Sass as a permanent raven mother is an experience, the lead actress Jennifer Decker, however, a real annoyance. She grins very cute indeed. But not more.
"Lulu and Jimi" is like cotton candy - very sweet, rather sticky and not to everyone's taste. To like this trash fairy tale, you definitely need a big heart for kitsch.
