Ed Sheeran: The exceptional artist turns the audience into a background choir

About a year ago, Ed Sheeran (27, "Divide") raved about big concerts in Germany in an interview with the news agency "spot on news": On July 29 and 30, 2018, the exceptional artist will perform in the sold-out Olympic Stadium in Munich - and once again show his entertainer qualities.

For Sheeran proves once again: It does not need background dancers, elaborate stage design or mega-performances across the audience to make people dance, sing and cheer. All it takes is a guitar, a good voice and the singer's eternal companion: his loop pedal. This allows the musician to easily layer several vocal and guitar sequences together until a whole song is created.

Best mood at over 30 degrees

High summer temperatures did not keep fans from waiting patiently in front of the stadium during noon hours to get a perfect spot in front of the stage - and get in the mood with the support acts. Jamie Lawson (42, "What Not Expecting That") played more quiet guitar songs that fit perfectly into the summer evening. Anne-Marie (27), who has recently become a permanent guest on the charts, then provided her hits "F.R.I.E.N.D.S." and "Ciao Adios" for party mood.

At around 8:45 pm, the actual star of the evening finally entered the stage. And so completely without staring, as one of Ed Sheeran is used to. In shirt, shorts, sneakers and tennis socks he let the audience sing along from the first song, his hit single "Castle on the Hill" from the current album "Divide". In addition to other catchy tunes such as "Galway Girl" and of course "Shape of You" he also suggested calmer sounds with "Thinking out loud" and "Perfect", which he dedicated to two former teachers in the audience. These transformed the Olympic Stadium without further ado into a romantic flashlight sea.

German fans are especially loyal

Especially the quieter songs he plays in Germany especially like, said the singer on stage. For the German public knows how to stay calm and enjoy the moment in such moments. In addition, his German fans have a very special status for him. For though it was hard to get the Germans excited about it, if they were then convinced they would always be behind it - no matter how good or bad the songs are, Sheeran joked on stage in one of his many anecdotes he interposed told the songs.

In addition to the songs from his current album, his older hits like "Do not" still seemed to be well received by the audience. In doing so, he took a lot of time to build up the songs with his loop pedal and the audience quickly became a background choir - each line of text sat.

A classic as a finale

At the latest at the grand finale with his classic "Sing" he not only let the stadium sing aloud for the last time, but was also able to convince the "Super Dads" who accompanied their children and convince the "boyfriends" they were bringing along still had expressed his sympathy. For when Ed Sheeran entered the stage for the encore, he suddenly wore a jersey of the German national football team, in addition, a rainbow flag as a sign of diversity and tolerance.

After almost two hours full of singing, cheering and sea of lights, the singer finally said goodbye to the colorfully lit stage. But he does not have to part with the Olympiastadion itself: On Monday evening he will give everything a second time to sweep his fans with a loop pedal and a guitar. The second concert is already completely sold out.
