Dyeing batik and fabric - that's how it works

The special patterns are created by folding and setting the fabrics before dyeing with batik color. Because where the fabric is tied, the color can not penetrate.

That's how it's done:

A piece of fabric is folded like a concertina first into a strip and the strip into a square, wrapped tightly with rubber bands and placed in the dye bath. So you get a check pattern like the bag, which you can then sew in bag format from the Batik fabric. It is also possible to pull the fabric together in one strand, tie it firmly with rubber bands, and streak it after dyeing.

For batiks:

Try, try, try! Best with scraps. Great: The specimens are not lost, you can sew them together to a great patchwork blanket.

The batiks are bright fabrics of cotton, silk, viscose, linen, semi-linen and polyamide, which are dyed with darker batik colors. How it works, is in the instructions. When buying the paint, make sure that it is also suitable for your fabric material. Have lots of fun with it!

Ingredients for batiks:

  • Bright fabrics of cotton, silk, viscose, linen, semi-linen and polyamide.
  • Batik powder suitable for your fabric and batik salt.
  • To prevent the hands from discoloring, rubber gloves are recommended!

Beautiful effects also arise when you dye fabrics with applications or weave patterns. Especially with large pieces of fabric you should definitely use the washing machine for dyeing - this is the only way the color spreads evenly and the fabric does not become stained.

That's how it's done

Cotton jacquard in white, 290 cm wide. To order at cocoon. Armchair: September Gallery.

We used a blanket of flower jacquard. White cotton fabric is ideal for dyeing, and the plastic pattern looks great on large areas. Here we have dyed the fabric in the washing machine with lavender blue and the nettle food in Mandarin and then framed the gem with an apple-green piping (ready-made diagonal stripe).

For dyeing in the washing machine:

Cotton is best. You can also dye blended fabrics, but the synthetic content should not exceed 50 percent. The higher the proportion of synthetic, the weaker the colors are.

You do not have to worry about your washing machine! If you stick to the package instructions, nothing can happen, even color residues will not stay behind.

Only the finished dyed fabrics should be washed with similar colors - they can lose some more color.
