Raspberries are in season from July to September. A distinction is made in summer raspberries, which are harvested between July and September, and in autumn raspberries, whose harvest time is between August and October. Autumn raspberries do not bear fruit first in the year after planting, but in the year in which the plants are planted, namely on the new rods. Moreover, the variety of raspberry varieties is surprising. Their taste ranges from juicy-sweet to sweet-sour.



In addition to the red raspberries that we all know, there are also yellow varieties with sonorous names such as Fall Gold and Golden Everest and even black raspberries, which are rightly called Black Jewel and visually initially remind of blackberries. They are very aromatic, taste sweet and are specially perfumed. Therefore, this variety is not for everyone, but worth a try in midsummer, if you can get some.

All varieties are rich in vitamin C, iron, calcium, folic acid and antioxidants. Not for nothing they say they have an antibiotic, appetizing and draining effect. They are designed to stimulate defense mechanisms and stimulate the immune system and metabolism. So what are you waiting for?



Be careful with the sensitive raspberries

Raspberries are considered particularly sensitive fruits. Anyone who has ever had crushed raspberries in their shopping exchanges understands this. Unlike other fruits that still ripen at the grocery store and at home, raspberries have to be harvested when they have reached the optimal level of ripeness. Then they are also bursting to bursting and must be handled very carefully. This also explains why they are so expensive: they are harvested by hand, transported with great care, and should then be used up quickly, otherwise they will soon become mushy and moldy. And it would be a shame if you were to spoil the sweet raspberries.

Buy and store fresh raspberries

Whether raspberries are really fresh - and have not already come a long way from Spain or Italy - you will realize that the fruits are plump and juicy. They have a rich red color and shine healthy. They smell aromatic and show no traces of mold. Only then should you buy raspberries too. In this condition, they can then be stored for 1-2 days in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.



For this you put the unwashed raspberries in a basket made of papier-mâché or another air-permeable container that you place on a plate, which catches the leaking juice. Stay away from metal bowls! Fruits that already show traces of mold, have nothing to look for in the fridge. The spores can spread in the fridge and infect other fruits.

The best and tastiest of course, if you use the raspberries completely fresh. Luckily, you do not have to look for tasty raspberry recipes for a long time. There are, of course, wonderful classics that you look forward to every year.
