DSDS semi-finals: Mehrzad Marashi in an interview

On Saturday, the semi-final of Germany is looking for the superstar. After Kim Debowski was sent home by the spectators last week, three guys make it to the finals: Menowin Fröhlich, Manuel Hoffmann and Mehrzad Marashi.

We introduce you to all three candidates here. Mehrzad Marashi also reveals in an interview why he's with DSDS - and how the limelight feels.

Manuel Hoffmann

Can he sing? Yes, he can. He has a very pleasant voice color, which we like to listen to. However, he seems rather boring on stage.

His strengths His strengths are ballads. Since Manuel can show what is in him: The nice boy next door, mother in law darling, a small swarm of girls. He scores points with his fans.

His weaknesses Manuel should do without up-tempo numbers in his repertoire. As soon as the song has a faster beat, it tends to stop hitting the notes. Apart from that, he can not really move well on stage. It's better to stand on the mic stand with a slow song.

His chances Manuel had already been voted out, but to his luck, fellow Helmut was caught with drugs - and Manuel was allowed to return. Although everyone expected that he would fly out again, he was chosen among the last four. He could make it into the top three, but probably not enough for the final.

Menowin Merry

Can he sing? Oh yeah! And above all, he can sing everything! Pop, blues and - as he proved last - also German hits. What is so special about him? He manages to give each song a personal touch and not just sing it.

His strengths With his unique vocal color, the high recognition value and a lot of feeling Menowin can sing super ballads as well as faster songs. It's fun to watch and listen. He combines vocals with performance and offers the complete package.

His weaknesses Unfortunately, Menowin often has problems with the lyrics. Mostly he manages to get around without anyone noticing. But for us text professionals the mumblings are obvious - and the jury too.

His chances Definitely final worthy. Menowin and Mehrzad together in the final would definitely be an interesting conclusion for DSDS after a long time.

Mehrzad Marashi

Can he sing? And how he can! His voice puts us in a land full of emotions, happiness and goose bumps!

His strengths Mehrzad has it - he convinces with performance as well as with singing. The full superstar package so. He can dance while he sings without losing his breath and he can do a whole ball of emotions with a ballad. We look and listen to him!

His weaknesses We've been thinking for a long time and looking for weaknesses, but to be honest, we can not think of anything. Text always sits, feeling and performance are also right. And even his private life offers no scandals - unlike his colleagues. So Mehrzad, keep it up!

His chances Mehrzad just has to reach the final!

BYM.de: You have been on the music scene under your pseudonym "Marasco" for several years now. Why DSDS now?

Mehrzad: For me, DSDS is the last chance to turn my hobby into a career. Now that my child is there, I would otherwise have to take a different path to earn my bread.

BYM.de: From the little clubs to the themed shows and to the TV - how does that feel?

Mehrzad: That's definitely a big difference! I have also appeared on stages, in front of which a few thousand people stood - that now gives me security. I am glad that I can experience all this here and after 16 years of work on my music will be rewarded with such performances.

BYM.de: Still stage fright?

Mehrzad: I always have stage fright, before every performance. But that's good too, that gives a certain tension on the stage, the seriousness that one needs for it.

BYM.de: DSDS is now well-known that the private life of the candidates there is always in the foreground. How is it for you and your family, who gets a lot of limelight?

Mehrzad: My girlfriend is a very quiet and shy person and found it difficult in the beginning, but meanwhile she is also happy that people are so interested in me. I myself have no problem talking about my private life. So far nothing bad has been reported about me, because there is nothing there.And I think people are watching the show and calling for us because they want us to get along and get to know each other. That's why I like to tell them something about me.

BYM.de: Why did you deserve the superstar title?

Mehrzad: Because I was authentic from the beginning and just as I am. I never had to pretend to attract attention. And I have experience - I studied music and have been on stage for many years. I bring the seriousness needed for the job.

BYM.de: And if it does not work?

Mehrzad: Then I definitely try to go my own way and continue to make music. I write many songs myself and compose on the piano. I am now among the last three at DSDS - I think I have quite good opportunities, even if I do not win.

BYM.de: What music would you like to do when the motto shows are over?

Mehrzad: If I win, of course I have to do the music first, which will then be presented to me. Generally in the long run I would like to do German music, based on Xavier Naidoo.

BYM.de: At the moment you have the impression that Germany is divided into Mehrzad and Menowin fans. How does it feel to polarize like that?

Mehrzad: That is sometimes a stupid feeling. I'm getting a lot of stupid emails and comments from Menowin fans right now. If someone does not like me, he should not look at my performance. But I do not understand that such people even bother to write to me 20 times in a row "You're shit". Overall, I have the impression that I have the audience on my side, which is already a bit older and mature. I'm glad about that, because that's usually the more loyal fans.
