In 1994 singer Luci van Org (47) released her hit "Mädchen". As a frontwoman of the band Lucilectric, the then 23-year-old landed with the song at the top of the charts. Even today, almost everyone can sing the catchy song lines: "Come on over man and sit down to me because I'm a girl because I'm a girl ..."
Almost 25 years later, van Org, who has since become successful as a writer, still likes to remember the great hype about the song, as she revealed in an interview with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung". "I've heard so many adorable stories from people who really care a lot, I would not dare to say something bad about this piece because it brought me so much happiness and beauty," says the 47-year-old.

At that time, the song not only made the young Luci van Org a superstar overnight, but also made numerous headlines. "The fact that a woman pronounces such things, that she has a right to her own sexual life, that she chooses her own partner, that she has fun with it - that was a sensation back then," she recalls.
The image of women has changed
In the past 24 years, however, the image of women she still sings about in "Mädchen" has changed a lot - but not only for the better. When she makes an appointment with a male colleague, he is often mistaken for her boss, notes van Org. "That makes me incredibly angry." In terms of equality between men and women have in their opinion, much too little done. "I like to be a woman," says the mother of a son, "but I've always fought a struggle not to let myself be restricted, especially in my job." There it is still a big topic.
