Cinema Tips: The most important movies in December

Winter time is blockbuster time? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! While in recent years, the new "Star Wars" series has always heated many minds during the cold season (and the years before that, a certain "hobbit" moved through Middle-earth), this looks different in 2018. The big cracker is indeed out, but some heroes come from the second row and two Marys - the horror writer and the singing nanny with umbrella, charm and no melon.

"100 things", 6th December

Toni (Matthias Schweighöfer) loves his espresso machine. Paul (Florian David Fitz) loves his cell phone. Toni can not do without hair pills, Paul can not do without his holy sneakers. But above all, Paul can not do without Toni and Toni without Paul. But they do not know that. It is always about who is better or cooler, and now they have it: Now they sit there, without furniture, without clothes, naked and frozen. And that's only day one! One hundred days, they have bet, they have to give up everything. Every day only one object comes back. And then they get tangled up in questions that never came to them before: what do you really need? Do we own our things or our things?

Assessment:

The premise of "100 Things" sounds interesting, but could quickly run dead in the course of a feature film and sounds more like the concept of a short film. Especially since the story of the most exciting (and nakedest) part of the strip is pending at the beginning, when the two general-purpose weapons of German cinema have to go through the biggest resignation. Anyone looking for a humorous feel-good cinema in winter will find what they are looking for in "100 things". Presumable message spoiler: friendship is more important than material possession.

"Bumblebee", 20 December

In 1987, the mysterious machine man Bumblebee hides in the shape of an old VW beetle in the junkyard of a small California coastal town. Shortly before her 18th birthday and looking for her place in life, finds the rebellious Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) the broken and battle-weakened Bumblebee. With mechanical skill she begins to repair him and quickly learns that this is not just an old junk mill.

Assessment:

Brain and Cinema: This motto could already help you to feel an infantile mirth in the "Transformers" films. The solo adventure of Autobot Bumblebee is no different. If you fancy cinematic roller coaster ride instead of dramaturgic mogul piste, then you can imagine: why not?

"Aquaman", 20 December

The semi-human Atlantean Arthur Curry (Jason Mamoa) must face his fate, contrary to his will, to find out who he really is: does he even deserve to accept the royal dignity due to him from birth? He is accompanied on his sensory search by the stormy warrior Mera (Amber Heard). Whom Curry's subdued ambitions for the throne of Atlantis may not necessarily like is reigning King Orm (Patrick Wilson) - and Aquaman's half-brother. He strives for completely different things: war against the people.

Assessment:

So far, the DC comic filming away from "Batman" and "Wonder Woman" were blessed with no great success. And even when looking at "Aquaman" is the big hype (maybe for self-protection) for the time being. The film could offer rare underwater viewing opportunities, but also has plenty of stranger-sham potential when it comes to computer-simulated sharks in the battle. The best way to go to the cinema without great expectations, then the fall height is lower.

"Mary Poppins' Return", 20 December

London 1930 - 24 years after the action of the original film: Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) has grown up and works for the bank, where his father was already employed. He still lives in the Cherry Tree Lane 17 with his now three children and the housekeeper Ellen (Julie Walters). His sister Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer) follows in her mother's footsteps and stands up for workers' rights. In addition, she helps Michael's family where she can. When they suffer a personal loss, Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) magically rejoins the life of the Banks family and, with the help of her friend Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), brings her joy and wonder back to her home.

Assessment:

Refreshing that the remake of the cult movie "Mary Poppins" comes as a sequel and not as a remake. Accordingly, he offers himself mainly for nostalgic, Emily Blunt is also a worthy successor to Julie Andrews in the title role - even if you probably not necessarily beckons an Oscar for the role, as was the case with her predecessor in 1965.Of course, every movie-goer has to adapt to the new part on colorful Kitschmomente and singing - but that should be aware of any interested cineastes.

"Mary Shelley", December 27th

She is young, rebellious and ready to overcome all the constraints and conventions of her time: the fate of 16-year-old Mary (Elle Fanning) in 1814 together with the famous romantic poet Percy Shelley (Douglas Booth), who like Mary himself his life of Has prescribed literature. But the passionate love of the young couple is despite all openness and tolerance always put to a severe test. When the poet Lord Byron (Tom Sturridge) challenges Mary Shelley to a literary contest, she invents one of the most famous literary creatures in world history: Frankenstein's Monster.

Assessment:

Her work has been donated countless films, now finally gets Mary Shelley their cinema appearance. There is an interesting potential for this: On the one hand, as a history film, you can learn a lot about the early 19th century, on the other hand it presents the vivacious and futuristic fantasy of a young woman. Mind you, at a time when one of the main tasks of a woman was to look beautiful and give birth to children. No compulsory date, but certainly interesting for book-affine moviegoers.
