Can you really lose weight in the bathtub?

Can Epsom salt do wonders?

Supposedly the Hollywood stars dive for years before major events. Bath and Bittersalzbad is the pre-program before the Golden Globes and Oscars. Because a bath in Epsom salt, also called Epsom salt or chemically correct magnesium sulfate, should not only relieve stress, reduce pain and improve the skin texture, but allegedly let the pounds tumble. Sounds great, but is really all true, what is written about the miracle salt?

Can you really lose weight while bathing in Epsom salt?

The Epsom salt bath is supposed to make us slim. But why? Because we sweat while bathing and lose water, which in the short term on the scales pretends to be a loss of weight? Could be minimal, but also applies to all other hot baths and sauna sessions.

The bath in magnesium sulfate is said to stimulate the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes. The pancreas has two important functions: it provides the body with hormones that regulate blood sugar levels (insulin and glucagon) and enzymes for digesting food. So if it could be stimulated by an Epsom salt bath, the theory of weight loss could be long term. However, there are no proofs yet. Do we doubt the immediate loss of identifiable kilos? but Epsom salt may be different!

Can an Epsom salt bath free us from toxins?

A warm bath with Epsom salt is said to promote detoxification of the body. The Epsom salt wants to pull toxins out of the body and thereby bring the pH of the body into balance. So far, the project of Epsom salt sounds pretty good. The subject of detoxification, however, is a medically very controversial, because the deposition of harmful substances in the body, which we can discharge through diet, fasting or drinking again, is not proven. Beyond conventional medicine, for example in kinesiology, it is believed that it is possible to discharge harmful substances such as heavy metals, which can accumulate in the body. The German Nutrition Society, on the other hand, states: "In a healthy human body, there is no accumulation of cinders and deposition of metabolites, and non-utilizable substances are excreted through the intestine and kidneys." If that's the case, we can not do much with an Epsom salt bath. The truth of the thesis is therefore rather doubtful.

That can be Epsom salt really

Magnesium is important for stress management, fluid balance, slowing down of aging and calming the nervous system. And since an Epsom salt bath has been shown to increase magnesium levels, it can do a lot of good.

Athletes use magnesium sulphate as a bath additive to prevent magnesium deficiency after intensive muscular effort. The water makes the skin more permeable, so magnesium can make its way into the blood. A study has shown that after a 12-minute bath with recommended 400 grams of magnesium sulfate athletes actually had a significantly increased magnesium levels.

It can also be beneficial for the skin: For psoriasis and stress-related symptoms, balneologists use Epsom salt. It binds moisture in the skin and softens the skin. If you have dry skin, but should still add an oil additive in the bathroom or afterwards with moisturizing lotion nachcremen.

Mixed with water you can drink Epsom salt for removal? the salty-bitter taste is not pleasant. Most fasting cures recommend different laxative methods, as the possible adverse effects of taking Epsom salts include indigestion such as diarrhea, nausea and abdominal cramps.

Magnesium sulfate is even used as a garden fertilizer: rhododendrons, azaleas and hydrangeas, but also coniferous trees such as spruce, larch and pine provoke a slightly acidic soil, which often suffers from magnesium deficiency? That's why amateur gardeners like to fertilize with Epsom salt diluted in water.
