After school massacre: Donald Trump wants to arm teachers

Seventeen people died last week when a 19-year-old shot and killed in his former school in Parkland, Florida, with a rapid-fire weapon. On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump met with survivors and relatives of the White House. And the world wondered spellbound: How does Trump want to react?

A few confessions - and more weapons

First, Trump promised that he wanted to fight that future offenders can not rebuild semi-automatic weapons so that they work like rapid-fire weapons - this he wants to ban the appropriate devices. Also, Trump brings an increase in the age limit for weapons to 21 into play (the shooter of Florida is 19).

And then Trump makes a startling suggestion: At the request of the father of a slain student to train teachers better, Trump answers, "We'll look at it very carefully, if there had been a teacher who knew enough about firearms very well to finish the attack very quickly. "

One in five teachers could carry a covert weapon and turn off a shooter in case of emergency, Trump thinks. He also brings in armed security forces who could patrol schools. This could also be ex-Marines and former soldiers used.

Vortex also about Trump's cheat sheet

Surprised looks also made at the meeting that Trump had apparently prepared himself with a "cheat sheet" on the meeting. However, the handwritten card was so clumsy that photographers were able to scan it - revealing what Trump had noted in advance:

Among other things, the president had questions such as "how can we help you?" and "What do you want me to know about your sensations?" written down. The card also said, "I can understand you" - as if Trump himself must remember to assure the survivors of his compassion.

In fact, during the meeting, Trump kept telling him that he could understand the feelings of the survivors and relatives, even though he did not use his cheat sheet.

The demand to arm teachers and his cheat sheet have again brought sharp headwinds to Trump in America. Critics accuse the president of merely hyping sympathy and being under the influence of the powerful gun lobby.

Trump says arming teachers with concealed weapons could prevent school massacres (June 2024).
