With these slogans the AfD gets votes

"Alternative for Germany". That sounds so positive. After a new way. After people who have really thought about our country and our politics. Breaking down our crusty political structures and talking about content without party pressure. But if you look at the election programs and statements of the AfD representatives, it becomes clear: Once again, this is a party on the right edge with populist slogans on voters. And so that appeals to those who are not very concerned with democracy: surveys on the state election in Saxony, in which the AfD took almost ten percent of the vote, showed that many non-voters and former NPD voters chose the new party, but also Followers of other established parties.

Some theses of the "alternative for Germany":

Women's topic: gender mischief

In Saxony, the AfD sent a woman into the race with Frauke Petry. But that can not hide the fact that the party has more backbone views on women. In the election program for Saxony, the AfD spoke out explicitly against the current gender equality policy. "We refuse socio-political re-education measures such as 'gender mainstreaming', it says. On her Facebook page, the AfD called that also "gender mischief". Incidentally, gender mainstreaming, ie the plan to take into account the life situations and interests of women and men in all decisions at all levels of society, is also a declared objective of the European Union. But the rejects the AfD yes anyway. Also, that women go to work today, does not quite fit into the life of the AfD. According to AfD boss Bernd Lucke that leads to many "problems".

Topic sexism: "P (r) o diversity"

The youth organization of the Afd, the "Young Alternative", also makes a mood against the "gender mischief" - and in particular strikingly. At the beginning of the year they showed on Facebook pictures of young women who explained on signs why they were not feminists. There were provocative sentences like: "I'm not a feminist, because I like to stop the door and help in the jacket." Also "Political Correctness" finds the young wing apparently uncool. Why not advertise with naked women's back, with sayings like "P (r) o variety" - if it works so well?

At our request, the Junge Alternative explains the motive as follows: "We are fighting against the stereotype that attractive women who volunteer to be photographed are considered cheap sex objects." The decisive factor is: "The woman can decide on her own, she can be photographed naked or not, she can become the CEO or stay home as a housewife." The Young Alternative is explicitly against women quotas, because only the competence should decide on the job placement. And sees himself as the "spearhead of a new form of emancipation movement".

Topic migrants: "integration folklore"

In terms of foreigners and refugees policy, the AfD fishes open the right-wing populist edge. Of "integration folklore" can be read in the Saxon election program, of course, the AfD for harsher immigration conditions and against dual citizenship.

Theme German identity: "singing the national anthem"

For the AfD in Saxony, history lessons at German schools are much too one-sided. In order to "give the children a positive sense of identity", the emphasis should be placed much more on the 19th century and the wars of liberation, the demand in the election program for Saxony. And: "The singing of the national anthem on festive occasions should be self-evident as in the USA." Even abstruse ideas such as "a quota for German-language music titles" in public service broadcasting find a majority in the AfD.

Theme foreign religions: "Without Grand Mosque"

It goes without saying that the AfD also scrapes a bit on religious freedom. In the Saxon election campaign, the party won the demand pluses that there should be referendums on mosque buildings with minarets. "We are committed to religious freedom and do not reject Mosque buildings in principle, but the free exercise of religion for Muslims in Saxony is guaranteed even without a Grand Mosque. These construction projects, which deeply intervene in the cityscape, must be accepted by the local population.

Homosexuals: "Commitment to marriage and family"

Even the "gay marriage" does not fit into the German image of the AfD. To the much acclaimed outing of football player Thomas Hitzlsperger, chairman Bernd Lucke said at the AdD convention in January: "I would have liked it if Mr. Hitzlsperger had linked his commitment to his homosexuality with a commitment to marriage and family for our society are constitutive. "

Theme Environment: "Eco-Religion"

In terms of environmental policy, the AfD drives a similar line as many climate protection opponents in the US. "The threat of global warming, as propagated by the IPCC, has been refuted by the 17-year warming stop, with the weather changing without human influence," the election program said. The two-degree goal of limiting global warming can not be justified scientifically and is "an expression of an eco-religion". That is why the German energy transition is "to stop immediately".
