Craig David: "Women do not rob me of sleep"

As shy as he looks, Craig David is not at all ...

Well he looks. Damn good. Short-cropped hair, leather jacket, white adidas sneakers. As a welcome, there are two pecks on the cheek. He also smells good! Then Craig David disappears to the bathroom. Luckily. So there is time to take a deep breath, calm down the shaky knees and look around the hotel room. Craig's sunglasses lie on a small table next to his cell phone and a tablet can.

BYM.de: I see you take vitamin tablets. Are not you feeling well?

Craig David: All right. I take these things to stay fit. That's healthy fat, omega-3. When I'm on the road all day, giving interviews and performing on stage, I can not eat a burger or chocolate. You have to be careful.

BYM.de: What about Fish'n'Chips? Say, you never treat yourself that?

Craig David: Sure, from time to time. I am finally from England. And a strict diet I do not think so synonymous. So, now you know my eating habits ...

BYM.de: Let's talk about your new song. This is called "insomnia", meaning insomnia. What keeps you awake at night?

Craig David: When I finish an album and give it to my record company. Then I can not sleep and make a million thoughts: Maybe I would have better chosen a different song? Or to record another version?

BYM.de: So it's not the women who rob you of your sleep?

Craig David: No. If you do not pay attention to a girl, you're way too deep in the matter. If you parted and the girl was really important to you - okay. But otherwise you should not make such a head. There are so many people in the world, so many possibilities. Of course, after a break, it takes a bit to get used to the idea. But you will find someone again.

BYM.de: That does not sound very romantic right now.

Craig David: Maybe, but that's the way it goes! Far too many people hide at home and conjure up the past. That does not help. You'd better think, Okay, I have good friends around, we can handle this together.

Craig David is already thinking of the next album

BYM.de: Have you ever been in love?

Craig David: Yes, a few times. And just because it did not work, it does not mean that I no longer love the person. We just did not fit together properly. But instead of pretending nothing, I prefer to be honest and draw a line. If you argue more than having fun with each other, then you should draw conclusions.

BYM.de: You have now recorded your hit "Walking Away" with the girls from Monrose. What was it like to work with them?

Craig David: The girls are cool. And to inspire very quickly. Of course they are not Destiney's Child or En Vouge, but a Pop group, much like Girls Aloud or the Sugababes in our country. There are already two worlds collided. But it worked.

BYM.de: How is it that you release a greatest hits album at the age of 27?

Craig David: My record company asked me two years ago. That was too early. But the music industry is changing rapidly. People want hits. And if they do not get it, get it yourself on iTunes. For me, the new material is definitely more important. The Greatest Hits are a stop on the way to my fifth album.

BYM.de: And when should album # 5 appear?

Craig David: Hopefully in the summer, but I do not know for sure. I work with Jim Beanz who is a producer from the Timbaland camp and a very cool guy. It will be an up-tempo album, fast and danceable.

BYM.de: You used to be a DJ. Do you go to clubs often and celebrate?

Craig David: Not as much as before. As much as I like celebrating, it's just hard to go through the night and then give 110 percent the next day at a gig. Such a rock 'n' roll lifestyle is not necessarily worth striving for. If you drink tequila until six o'clock in the morning and you want to sing live the next day, you're in the bag. Do not get me wrong, I still enjoy it. But you have to know when the time is right.

BYM.de: Are you also dancing to your own music?

Craig David: I used to think it was funny when my songs were played in clubs. I then stopped dancing because I felt everybody watching me. I do not care. I dance to my music as well as to a Beyoncé song or a Timbaland track. Why not?
