William & Harry: They do not stick to what the Queen is living

In her new book "What comes after the Queen - the English royal house between Boulevard and Buckingham Palace" (Rowohlt), Mareile Höppner (41) raises the question "what will be done to the following generations, who are embarking on this difficult legacy?" In an interview with spot on news, the moderator and Royal expert explains that Prince Charles (69) will only be a transitional king. What she thinks of the young Royals, the 41-year-old reveals here.

With William and Kate, a modern family will someday be at the head of the monarchy. Will the royal house be completely redefined with them?

Höppner: That will happen. There is a big reorientation right now. It is about a new openness of the monarchy - an amazing twist, considering what the Queen has exemplified for her grandchildren. They do not stick to that. They are already setting their own themes: it will be more about women and emancipation and a more open society. This family is changing and the young Royals are facing a great challenge. They are very close on the one hand and even talk publicly about their problems. On the other hand, they must keep the distance. William attaches great importance to being able to live in peace with his family. He finally saw his mother being persecuted.

Keira Knightley has accused Duchess Kate of communicating a false image of women in public because she left the hospital a few hours after birth and dressed neatly dressed. How big is the pressure on Kate - and now also on Meghan - to audition an always perfect, perfect world?

Höppner: Many Britons want to be sure that they play a much less healthy world. That's why Harry and Meghan are so important to the Crown, because not everything is so smoothed out with them. The criticism of Kate has existed in the UK for a long time. She is accused of shopping and taking care of fashion. She still hardly sets any topics. This is done by William and Harry and now Meghan, who works for women's rights, among other things. Kate is always trying children's issues, which is credible, but that's not the jolt British society expects. The British are looking at the royal house quite differently. We are happy about the colorful pictures, for them the royals are as important as the German President. These are the door-openers and ambassadors of the country.

Soon after the wedding of Prince Harry with Duchess Meghan, there were reports that said: So quickly did the British royal family make a mannequin out of this dedicated woman who stood up for her goals. Would you agree with that?

Höppner: No, in my opinion that is too short. Of course Meghan has to settle in this complicated situation. But I think, this young woman stands for many things and that is what she represents. I expect a lot, they will meet the requirements.

First of all she will be mother in the spring. What is the baby's baby's status in the Royal Family - officially it will not even be a prince or a princess?

Höppner: In the succession to the throne this child does not matter, but of course Meghan and Harry's offspring will be raised by the Queen in the state of a prince or a princess. We do not have to worry about that.

The throne will eventually inherit the little Prince George. He already has a lot of fans. How much effort do the royals make to achieve this visibility?

Höppner: The young Royals are doing this very cleverly, especially as far as George is concerned. They enable him to go to a normal school. That did not exist generations ago, the Queen has been taught in the palace, Charles went to elite schools. Especially through the social media, the young generation of royals can control the public well. On the first day of school, George's picture is not published by a photographer, but by Kate. At Williams' training, countless photographers came. This saves them the children and this allows a "normal" growing up.

Videotipp: Fascinating reason! That's why the queen always wears brightly colored outfits
