Every night, millions of people sit on their couches and rejoice over how many Likes the photo of their lunch brings to Instagram, while in the background news of fatal accidents, attacks and quarrels between nuclear powers flicker across the TV screen.

Our world is exciting, inspiring, beautiful and incredibly inviting? but in parts it is also deeply strange, complicated, ugly and contradictory. The strange side of our world is occupied by the Indian artist and comic artist Kaviya. As part of her # 100DaysOfDirtyLaundry project, she has set out to illustrate this page using Instagram comics.

"If we remove the pink glasses, we will see the problems"

"All we see are posts with filter selfies, holiday impressions, fitness goals, stylish clothes, and fancy meals," says the 28-year-old.But when we lose the pink social media glasses, our generation is struggling with serious problems: Complex Relationships, Material Oversupply, Mental Illness, Smartphone Addiction, Sexuality and Body Negativity. I felt a strong need to address these so-called dirty taboos from my personal point of view in order to stimulate an open discussion about them. "

"Farts are an indicator of our health"

The taboo that evidently moved her so much that she devoted her first post to us is all of us (would I say daring): Farts!

A post shared by Hi! (@wallflowergirlsays) on Jun 6, 2017 at 5:43 PDT

"All my life I've learned that farting is disgusting, that you have to fight and oppress farts until they die a slow, silent death. And when the smell spreads out in the room, you look around disgusted and try to blame it on an innocent old granny or even your dog. [...] Farts are an indicator of our health. They are part of our digestive system, and if we let them out, that actually reduces our risk of stroke, I read. There you go, now go and fart! "

Although Kaviya does not have a classical art education, her drawings are professional and aesthetic and impressively convey her statements. Particularly appealing to their account is the stark change between posts on such light everyday phenomena as farts, menstruation or dating and more difficult topics such as politics, self-esteem or our torn between social media illusion and Real Life.

Rollercoaster ride between lightness and profundity

For example, a "home is where you do not wear a bra" post (SO TRUE !!!) is followed by a comic about self-hatred and perfectionism, whereupon we stumble into a figurative critique of religion. And when we scroll through their account emotional roller coaster from a "Ha ha ha, exactly" on a "hmm, genaaaauuu" to a "oh you shit, exactly!". In the end, however, we rise at a "Wow!" with lots of inspiration and thoughts again? and maybe see the real world for a few seconds with different eyes than before.
