Quite smooth. All over!

No, I do not want to look like a pornstar or serve in the sauna the lolita fantasies of any pleasure pigs. And I certainly do not consider myself an unwilling victim of conformity pressure, hygiene delusional or otherwise an unfortunate current with which the film, television and advertising industry meanwhile, alas, forces even men to depilate.

All of this has been said at the latest since last year. Since Charlotte Roche's novel "Wetlands" catapulted our way of dealing with the body of the rest of the body into the spotlight of the public, where he was debated as violently as last in the 1970s. At that time the question was "pricking or sprouting?" highly political, and who opted for the second variant, thus showed the Chauvis almost the emancipated middle finger - in brunette, red, black or blonde.

Depilation complete - all pain despite

Sorry, but I see it completely non-ideologically: I want to go to India for Ayurveda, and because I do not want me to crumble herbal paste from the ripples on the way to the shower, I decided to take the two-class treatment that I have my hair, now extend to the Regichen south of the belly button. Yes, I admit it, I am unfair: What I would like to have more on my head, what I lovingly care for around the top, wash daily and päpple with cures, where I only selected styling products and color alone professionals let know so I have no mercy down the line.

Although my calves and armpits are also undeveloped far from the King Kong League, I still regularly hit the wet shaver for about 25 of my 41 years. Brewing and upper lip had against it only with my first Facial believe in it, there I was already beginning 30. The beautician said, my gaze would be less open to the bar and the mouth part desflaumt look fresher, and I let myself be persuaded.

The plucking hurt, the growing even more, but I told myself that it would be good to get used to it - because at some point the menopause would come. And with them strange hair: gray, shaggy, long. Just like that, overnight. On the chin and chest, for example. A female colleague told me about it, on whose desk recently a magnifying mirror was standing. Maybe they even get me out of my ears, I tell myself, and then I would be due anyway. It did not help much. Tears rolled down my cheeks. But the result looked great. And so I stayed with it - I find fur in the wrong places as superfluous as a goiter.

And I'm not alone with that. Well, in an international comparison, Germany is the dehaired rather behind. And one or the other may remember that in the early 1980s, Nena shocked audiences in England and the US with armpit-like armpits. Since then, however, the beauty ideal has changed with us as well. After all, 2006 determined a razor manufacturer, that for 70 percent of the surveyed 14 to over 60-year-old women depilatories belongs to the body care.

Just how much value younger people place on them is shown by a study conducted last year by the Department of Medical Psychology and Medical Sociology at the University of Leipzig. More than 97 percent of the average 23-year-old female students and 79 percent of their peers said they were on a regular basis at least one job to act - beard not included. 88 percent of women and 67 percent of men also claimed to have intimate shaving.

Study Director Professor Dr. med. Elmar Brähler sees this as a general cultural trend. The ever-stricter swimwear and the many pictures of naked bodies in the media contribute to the development of esthetic norms for the pubic area as well. "A body region that was previously primarily a matter of privacy is now subject to a design imperative," says Brähler. In short, whoever shows everything must look good everywhere. Incidentally, the scientist is convinced that the nude look will disappear again - just like tattoos and piercings.

Smooth skin is considered beautiful and hygienic

Let's wait for it. However, it is clear that man has always tried to change his natural appearance. Even in ancient Egypt, smooth skin was considered beautiful and hygienic, as a status symbol. Wild growth, on the other hand, was frowned upon, for the smell of animalism was still attached to him. To free themselves, women and men attacked polished stones, plant extracts or pitch. In ancient Greece and Rome, one did not even shrink from arsenicals and lime-eye, and the cleanliness rules of Islam, which has been spreading since the Middle Ages, call for regular depilation of intimate and underarm areas.

The recipe literature shows that people also took a stand in the West at that time. However, when Caterina de 'Medici, Queen of France in the 16th century, renounced the depilatory, it was temporarily out of fashion - nevertheless, cosmetic advisers continued to recommend various home remedies such as saliva smeared blotting paper.

Although one used tweezers, blades and in the 18th century then wafer-thin blown glass rolls, which could be cut into handy pieces, but it was much more comfortable from 1915, when in the US, the first ladies wet razor came on the market. At that time the clothes became airier too: now they wore sleeveless summer flags, in the 1920s the hem of the skirt slid upwards, the stockings became more transparent - and soon depilatory was a must for Frau von Welt on both sides of the Atlantic.

Pretty bald

The smooth shame, however, made it - at least in Germany - only a few years ago from the demimonde-Schmuddelecke to the beauty trend. But now there are a lot of depilation specialist studios, and those who, like me, are planning a type change, just have to decide on a look. Stand a median strip or decorate with little hearts, only on the sides, the labia or completely bare pull: pure matter of taste.

I take the full program. If so, yes! And instead of wax I try out "sugar", a sugar-water-lemon juice paste, orange like a chewy candy. It is better tolerated by many women, the blonde explains to me at the reception of the loud top of a friend's top salon. Especially since you do not sugaring against, but in the direction of growth and plucking ahead piece by piece, instead of pulling on a ratchet long strips. It hurts anyway. For 20 minutes. On my personal pain scale somewhere between browing plucking and upper lip waxing - but I find it much more embarrassing. Then a critical look in the mirror. Yes, I will probably come back. I like that bald really well. And that's important, is not it?

Further information: Especially for underarm and bright leg hair For example, wet razors (eg "Venus Vibrance" by Gillette) are recommended, which depilate painlessly and free the skin of dry scales with slight vibrations. Also new are special deodorants (eg "Hair Minimizing Deo-Spray" by Dove), which simultaneously wash the underarm hair. This should be detected by the razor blade directly at the base and not regrow so quickly. The bikini zone usually feels a bit stubble a day after shaving - and even dark leg hair can be seen again after a short time. If you want to have a longer lasting result, you have to remove the hairs directly from the root: with wax (eg "warm wax" from Veet) or a sugar solution (eg from Halawa). Both are pulled off against the growth direction jerky. It hurts a moment, but the sensation of pain diminishes after a few times.

An alternative are new epilators (eg "ES2063" from Panasonic) with specially arranged tweezer rollers, which catch hairs from all growth directions and are thus even more effective. It draws less, if you use the device under warm water. The pores widen and the hairs are easier to loosen. Apply a drop of shower gel to the rollers before epilating - the hair will straighten up and the device will be able to grasp it better. If new hair grows easily, it is best to apply hair removal creams (such as "Veet Hair Removal Cream Sensitive" for sensitive skin), which can also be applied under the shower and provide a smooth feel for at least a few days. Recommended: test before applying to a small spot.
