Nursing supplement insurance: Well taken care of in case of need

A 38-year-old ChroniquesDuVasteMonde reader recently asked me, "Sometimes I read in the newspaper about supplementary care insurance. Would not that be early enough for me? Maybe I will not get old and have paid in vain.According to statistics, nearly half of the population will eventually be in need of care, and this is a hot topic for women in particular: A 50-year-old will score an average of 94 today In addition, women are usually left on their own in old age, and they require twice as much care as men, for example, 90 percent of patients live in inpatient care facilities.

"I have the statutory long-term care insurance," I often hear then. That's true, but what many do not consider: These services are far from sufficient. The statutory long-term care insurance offers only basic coverage - and how long she can still do it, is not clear.

At the moment there are 1023 Euro per month for care level I and accommodation in the home, for care level II and III it is 1279 or 1510 Euro. An inpatient care costs today but on average 3600 euros. Therefore, the pension, savings and assets of the people in need of care are used for financing. And if that is not enough, the dependent children have to step in.

The problem: How important private provision can be, most people realize when they are older. Often, women are only interested in well over 60 years old. In principle, a supplementary nursing insurance can be completed until the age of 65, sometimes even up to the age of 70. As you grow older, however, extended care insurance will naturally become more and more expensive - as with any type of risk insurance. An example: If you want to take out insurance for 50 euros of nursing care allowance (that would be 1,500 euros a month in case of nursing care), you pay 35.50 euros at age 35, 45 already 39 euros and as 55-year-old already 62.50 euros.

Very meaningful is a supplementary care insurance for single people without a sufficient income and without fortune, but also for family members who do not want to burden their relatives or want to pass on something to them. By the way: Children can also take out such additional care insurance for their parents.
