Really now? The bazaar shopper Balenciaga is considered a new it-bag

Is not that ...?

Yes, this rainbow colored striped bag in XXL format looks like one of the huge plastic bags that we know from Asian markets. In Thailand, the bags are very popular when shopping, so they are often called "Sampeng Bags", after the same market in Bangkog.

What has such a bag lost on the catwalk?

We owe this to Demna Gvasalia, the new chief designer of the traditional French house Balenciaga. Gvasalia is also the genius-crazy head behind the It label Vetements, which among other things, managed to make a screaming ugly and very expensive yellow shirt with DHL imprint the bestseller. He was inspired by the Sampeng Bags for his XXL leather bags. Fittingly, Balenciaga sells the bags under the name "Bazar Shopper". In the online shop they are available for the proud price of 1995 Euro.

Is the idea really new?

It is a well-known fact that the designers, especially in terms of taste and size, love to let their hair down. We remember the oversized half-moon bag by Victoria Beckham. Even Marc Jacobs sent models with huge checkered plastic bags on the catwalk several years ago, at that time still as head designer of Louis Vuitton.

And what is the it-bag potential?

If you believe the hype that developed right after the Balenciaga show in March for the bazaar shopper, the chances are not bad. Also on Instagram we have already spotted one or the other colorful striped bag. Our assumption: This bag will run into us more often in autumn and winter. Incidentally, the start of sales in the online shop is September 12, 2016. Of course, the almost 2,000 euros that the shopper costs could also be invested in a Bangkog trip - and get the original for a few Thai baht there ...
