UN report: 15,000 children under the age of 5 die? every day

Every day 15,000 children under the age of five die worldwide? 7000 of them are babies that are not older than 28 days. This sad result comes from a report by Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund (UN).

Most newborns die in South Asia, followed by sub-Saharan Africa. There every 36th child does not survive its first month of life, reports "tagesschau.de", citing the UN report. For comparison, one out of every 333 newborns is killed in affluent industrial nations.

Main causes: pneumonia and diarrhea

Tragic too: deaths would often be avoidable. For reasons are not about incurable diseases. But those that really should be cured:The main causes of death are pneumonia (16 percent) and diarrhea (8 percent). These causes could be averted if mothers and children had medicine, enough food? or simply clean water and toilets.

Overall, according to the report last year 5.6 million boys and girls died. After all: Thus, the infant and infant mortality has fallen to a record low. Is it to be hoped that this trend will continue and that fewer and fewer children will die in the future? especially for unnecessary causes.
