Peter Maffay

Dear ChroniquesDuVasteMonde, who is Santa Claus?

Dear Peter Maffay, what do we know about the guy? When the miracles are booming at Christmas, his hour has come. Then he emerges out of nowhere for a major mission and decides muffled about good and evil. Some say that he comes from "out of the forest," the others attribute it to heavenly spheres, while others deny its existence.

As historically assured is that Santa Claus was once Nicholas. Or actually two Nicholas. One was Bishop of Myra in the 4th century, the other two centuries later Abbot of Sion. From their biographies, the legends about the saint assemble. One of them is bloodthirsty, but has made Nicholas the protector of the children. It tells of a butcher who had already processed three guys to salt meat before the bishop brought them back to life. Luther did not believe in such miracles, he brought the "Holy Christ" as a gift-giving into play.

In the middle of the 19th century, the secularized Santa Claus began his triumphal march because he was trusted to carry the parcels rather than to the tender Christ child. He owes his appearance to the "Mr. Winter" of the painter Moritz von Schwind, whose face supplemented the Coca-Cola advertisement 1931 by the red-white house colors. And that's the look of the costumes in which most of the dad is.

The question remains, if one can still believe in Santa Claus? O yes! There is a Santa Claus as certain as there is love or kindness. Nobody sees him, but that does not mean he does not exist.
