India: These photos set a mark against rape

A woman is traveling alone. Suddenly she is stopped by a group of men and brutally attacked. A danger that probably haunts every woman in the back when unaccompanied by a group of men is addressed - and a crime that has made in India in recent years repeatedly headlines.

"Rape can happen to anyone"

Photographer Ganesh Toasty wants something to change in his country. With a photo series he wants to draw attention to the problem - and above all show that the women are not "guilty", as they are still often assumed. "Rape can happen to anyone and be exercised by anyone," says the photographer. "The decision to rape someone is not only made by people with a criminal past, it's an impulse action that the offender often does not plan until it happens suddenly. (...) In addition, this photo series shows that the way how a woman dresses, has nothing to do with the crime of rape. "

Men in responsibility

In his photo story, Toasty recreates an attempted rape, focusing on those men who are guilty on the one hand and who can prevent worse things on the other hand. The perpetrators are educated citizens of the middle class, who from one moment to another become criminals. At the last second one of them remembers and keeps the rest of the group from sexually abusing the young woman.

It is never too late to do something!

This is not necessarily a feat after the woman has already been bloodily beaten. But that's what the photographer is all about: the message that it's never too late to stop.
