Donald Trump: The correspondent dinner takes place without him

His tense relationship with the media seems to again prevent US President Donald Trump (71, "Great Again !: How to save America") from attending the traditional White House correspondent dinner. "The White House has informed us that the president is not planning to attend this year's dinner [...]," said Margaret Talev, president of the White House Correspondents' Association, via Twitter. Already in 2017, Trump boycotted the event with his entire staff. His predecessor Barack Obama (56) had always held celebrated speeches at the event.

Something should change

However, the US President is a little less open this year, because as Talev continues, Trump wants to "actively encourage members of the executive to take part". In addition, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (35) will be present. The dinner, which will take place on April 28 this year, will feature journalistic achievements and the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution. It forbids passing laws which would restrict freedom of speech, religion, assembly and the press.
