Improve your charisma!

You can do a lot for the right outfit, a good body feeling and even for a pleasant voice - but the decisive factor for the charisma must come from within.

Some are just born of charisma: beauty, attitude, grace, charm. Others have a harder time. How often do we think: Is she fat? And only then notice how warm and charming the woman is. We think: but has the fissel hairs. And register later that the colleague is actually funny and competent. We think: but speak that in a terribly shrill voice. And we only notice afterwards what clever thoughts and good ideas the lecture contained.

Pay attention to the packaging

Investigations confirm that when we listen to someone, 55 percent of us pay attention to gestures, facial expressions, posture and movement, 38 percent to voice and tone, and only 7 percent to content. So who wants to arrive at the counterpart, must also pay attention to the packaging, its charisma. This concerns, for example, Annalena Schmidt. The breath, voice and speech trainer makes radio presenters fit for the microphone. But she is not just concerned with the right pronunciation and the effective emphasis.

Holistic training

"It's always a holistic workout," she says, "a personality work, we start with the posture because the posture determines what's possible with the breath, with the voice, which often goes into action."

Anyone who sits or stands with their shoulders bent and their backs bent has reasons to do so. The stooped posture has a function. "When I try to raise someone like that, it can be threatening at first, but if I say you imagine a nice situation, something pleasurable, then such people will automatically adopt a more open attitude."

To relax the muscles, to breathe with the diaphragm, to avoid convulsing the stomach, to appear thinner - these are very practical exercises of the trainer. But equally important is Annalena Schmidt, the learned actress, the emotional side. "We have become too expressive, we do not dare to gesticulate while speaking, we are always trying so hard to hide our feelings, we often speak with a straight face, but that too is part of a good charisma."

Voice training and stress reduction, a new outfit and tinted hair, higher heels and properly chosen colors - all this can make for a better appearance. It can not change people. And also not what we understand by charisma. "The external appearance is one thing", says work psychologist Sibylle Bräuer. "But charisma has something to do with the inside, it embraces the whole personality."

Consistency is important

And at work, it is essential. "In work situations one has to take his place linguistically as well as optically appropriately", says work psychologist and personnel developer Sibylle Bräuer. "Only then will you really be appreciated."

For example Sabine Stahmer (name changed by the editors), who works in a big company. She was dissatisfied, did not make much headway with her career. Less qualified colleagues passed the 34-year-olds. Her boss consoled her, did not open concrete perspectives. She earned too little. And for the sales success that they achieved, others earned the laurels.

What should she do? Cancel? A friend advised her to get advice from Sibylle Bräuer. The spooled off a whole program: from the joint analysis of the situation on sound psychological tests to application training. And when Sabine Stahmer decided not to resign, but to apply for the management training of the company, she also sent them to a style consultant before the assessment ("Assessment Center").

"In the case of Mrs. Stahmer, the visually modest appearance did not match the top performance achieved," explains the HR developer. "This is associated with a higher-priced outfit in such companies, and it is only by providing appropriate salary and advancement demands that one is inclined to continue to forecast high achievements and to move those to appropriate posts."

Sabine Stahmer has managed the Assessment Center with flying colors. Her colleagues marvel in meetings about her new appearance. And who looks closely, notices the small differences: The expensive trouser suit sits a bit better than the old, the make-up makes you look fresher, the T-shirt has now the perfect neckline. Sibylle Bräuer: "Here, the focus was not on the packaging, but the packaging had to catch up with the already proven services: That's what a successful manager with executive potential looks like."

Applications and selection process

Especially with applications, a harmonious appearance is enormously important. "The one who hires me also has a problem deciding on a huge spend, so you have to give him the assurance: I'll do what you need for your store, I can live up to your expectations if you look for me Decide, you're on the safe side, "says Sibylle Bräuer.

In such competitions trying to find out, the applicant is a nice guy or not. Occupational psychologist Bräuer: "And a nice guy is just someone who is like us, Basta, that's the principle." All reasons why someone who does not like to take away his Swabian dialect, will never get into a board in Hamburg, why a hamburger in Swabia remains a "fish head" and why it is also highly qualified people in the best outfit from the ex-GDR in the West have so heavy.

The same was the situation for Sabine Stahmer, by the way. "This is in a conservative company, in which clearly the men's rope works." If you want to make a career as a woman, there is only one thing: Be one of the boys, "explains advisor Bräuer. "You have to play the rules of the game and you have to respect their status world."

Do not dress up!

But if you can not move inwardly, if you feel every day that you have to disguise yourself and bend to be accepted, everything becomes a shell - and even the best charisma is flute. Because certain structures of his personality are brought along from an early age and continue to shape them over the years.

Sibylle Bräuer: "A thoughtful, introverted person does not turn into a party-cracker, and the good thing is that over the years it becomes increasingly clear which preferences you have and what you really want that really makes a difference when it comes to broadcasting: If at some point in your life you came to the point and say, yes, that's me!
