Dream wedding for a homeless couple

Evelyn had lost her son

No wedding without money? even if you do without the big party. Such was the sad reality of Evelyn and Rocky from Florida.

The two have been a couple for 22 years? and homeless for almost three years. For a long time, they dreamed of getting married, but never got the $ 93 for the marriage papers together.

Together with their dog they lived in a tent in a wooded area on the edge of the city of Tampa. Three years ago they hitchhiked from Ohio to Florida. Evelyn's life was overrun after her son died in a car accident.

"This is a dream come true?

But a newspaper article about the couple changed everything: many readers took pity and raised money to give them a wedding. About $ 20,000 came together. "People who never met them," said policeman Daniel McDonald, who cares for homeless people in Tampa. "And a noble wedding location came up to us and said she wanted to invite the couple to a dream wedding."

The? Cross Creek Ranch? is an exclusive wedding venue, and operator Bonnie McSharry offered to host the wedding - all inclusive.

"This is a dream come true," said Evelyn the regional broadcaster WFLA.

Really big wedding party? Rock and Evelyn could never have afforded themselves: Evelyn with a wedding dress, professional make-up and bridal hairstyle, Rocky with a white bow tie in a tuxedo. There was food and drinks for all guests and the flower decoration was not missing.

"It was so moving to see how excited they were, it was also a gift for me, my husband and our staff," said generous donor Bonnie McSharry about the party.

The real happy ending

But the real happy ending was still on the wedding day: Policeman Daniel McDonald has found a social housing for the newlywed wedding couple. Now he is happy with him. "We have many challenges to tackle with homeless people, so it's even nicer to win such a win, it's nice to see them start happy and a new chapter in their lives," he said to "WFLA."

"We look forward to a new life, and to start over, that's pretty much all I can say is that it's going to be a new start," said Rocky. Evelyn added, "It's fantastic that all these people have teamed up for two homeless people."

We're keeping our fingers crossed that Evelyn's and Rocky's love story will continue as in the fairy tale: "And they lived happily ever after ...?
