Dolce & Gabbana designs a collection for Muslim women

Dolce & Gabbana: headscarf and bling-bling

Never before has this been the case: Dolce & Gabbana is the first major high-fashion label to have discovered Muslim women as customers and has specially designed a collection for this target group, which is becoming increasingly important for the luxury segment. As announced on the fashion platform Style.com/Arabia, the collection includes headscarves (called hijabs) and abayas, a traditional Islamic garment that resembles a cloak and covers the body.

Typical of Dolce & Gabbana are the partly opulent patterns, including daisies, roses or lemons, and the striking styling with large handbags and lots of jewelry. Other pieces in the collection, on the other hand, are in simple black or nude tones, but use materials such as satin, lace or crepe.

When H & M showed a stylish young woman wearing a headscarf in a promotional video last year, the Swedish company received a lot of encouragement. One customer, for example, wrote on Facebook: "At last a fashion company is showing Muslim women as a target group, we love you, H & M!" Another explained, "Now that you've finally recognized us proudly and openly as your target audience, you've gained a new customer and certainly many more."

The Italian designer duo Dolce & Gabbana also caught the attention of the new collection in the social media. While many Muslim women on Facebook are thankful for the fashionable looks, other users are disappointed with the brand because they find headscarves and body-hugging clothing oppressive.
